As a UAB alum - Thank you. End this train wreck once and for all!!

That team has no fan support and plays in a dumb. Their players deserve better.

It's not a train wreck when they actually have a coach. They could make a bowl game this year an attendance is up like 150%

"Through four home games at Legion Field, the two-win Blazers have an average announced attendance of 11,589 fans per game, the second smallest among 128 Football Bowl Subdivision teams. Eastern Michigan averages 4,051, according to the NCAA."
Would you want to have to pay the bill for a program with that little support?....hell no!

They're top 4 in their conference in attendance. That's certainly not from this year.

So actual attendance is up to about 1200 a game?

Not sure why that's funny. At the first sign of success and having a good coach, people show up...

Will never happen. Birmingham will throw a shite fit.
The whole reason UAB football and athletics in general has been struggling so much is because they receive ZERO support from the UA BOT.
People don't go to games now because the team has been bad and plays in fricking Legion Field in the ghetto, where nobody wants to go. Downtown Bham around UAB is thriving right now, put a decent stadium in the proposed location off 65 and Univeristy and people will go. Especially if you give a coach like Bill Clark decent facilities to recruit so he can keep winning. The Birmingham metro has 1.5 million people and is the most college football hungry market in the state. Not all those people are going to Bama/ Auburn games every weekend and they want something to do on a Saturday night. Build it and people will come.
If Troy and USA can have success then there is no reason a properly supported team in Birmingham can't have mid major success. It's ridiculous the way UA is threatened by UAB athletics when a strong successful program would actually benefit the system.

Not really. It has been Bizarro football from the beginning, and was only started because Gene Bartow, the basketball coach, hated Bama and thought UAB would compete in football like his teams did in basketball. Um, no. Maybe the AUBOT would be interested in funding a new stadium and sponsoring the team.

Lol no he started it to stay in a basketball relevant conference. Not because he "hated" bama.

Seems like if all these Auburn fans who double as UAB fans would donate to the UAB program than they might actually be able to survive and thrive.

Just asking.

Sure he did. Bartow couldn't stand Paul Bryant and hated that UAB was dependent on the same BOT as the University.
Posted on 11/5/14 at 7:02 pm to ErnestTBassmaster
Again, not why he started football.
Posted on 11/5/14 at 7:06 pm to ErnestTBassmaster
We wouldn't have to fund it. The proposal brought before the BOT a few years ago had all the necessary funding lined up indepently. All it had to do was be approved and it was paid for, but no. Just like with the new Athletic Foundation. The lack of support is asinine and can only be explained by personal vendettas against UAB and the city of Birmingham.
