Alabama’s 49-7 blowout of Michigan State in the Capital One Bowl set all kinds of statistical high (and low) water marks. A few of the highlights:

Alabama's 42-point win over 7th-ranked (in the Associated Press) Michigan State is the second-largest margin of victory over a top-10 team in a bowl since 1990. The only other time in that span that a top-10 team lost by more than 40 points in their bowl came after the 1990 season, when No. 3 Texas lost 46-3 to the No. 4 Miami Hurricanes – exactly 20 years ago today!

The last time a top-10 team lost by 35 or more in their bowl game was in the Orange Bowl on January 4, 2005, when USC blew out Oklahoma 55-19.

For Alabama, it was their second-largest margin of victory in a bowl in school history. Only the 1953 Orange Bowl, in which the Tide won 61-6, was a bigger blowout. If it weren’t for a Bennie Fowler 49-yard touchdown reception, Alabama would have had their third shutout in a bowl game, and their first since the 1963 Orange Bowl against Oklahoma (17-0).

The Crimson Tide also set a school bowl record for rushing touchdowns in a game with five. The old record of four was set in the afore-mentioned 1953 Orange Bowl against Syracuse, and matched in last year’s BCS National Championship game against Texas. With a pair of rushing touchdowns today, Mark Ingram also made Alabama history – passing Shaun Alexander for the school record with 42.

Even more history for Alabama: the win gives them their 10th win of the season. This is the 30th ten-win season in Alabama history, one shy of the FBS record held by Oklahoma (note: this does not include seasons impacted by forfeited or vacated wins). Today marked Alabama’s 32nd bowl victory, as well – breaking a tie with USC for most all-time.

Didnt most of these Seniors commit to Shula before Saban was hired? Same with McClain?

Just sayin

McElroy was a pretty significant contributor the last two seasons.

The ONLY player on that list who was committed to Bama before Saban showed up was Rolando McClain. Saban still closed the deal on him and signed him.

It's a whole lot easier to name players who Saban is solely responsible for who have had a major impact over the last two years than it is to find Shula players.

Greg McElroy
Mike Johnson
Javier Arenas

That's about all.

We don't really have many seniors but yeah most committed before Saban was hired. Like McClain. Saban added Luther Davis, Marquis Maze, maybe one or two others.

Please oh please tell me this was a failed attempt at humor. If not, you fricking fail. Saban is by FAR the best coach in CFB. He's human, he will lose games. With that being said, Muschamp is hot on his heels.

Sorry bammers, had to do it, couldn't resist.

Shula seniors who started this year and/or last:

Javier Arenas
Mike Johnson
Greg McElroy
Preston Dial
Marquise Johnson

The rest were Saban players.

Crooms was 21-38 as a head coach with 10 SEC wins- that's averaging 2 a season

I'm also not saying he left Mullen a few good players- maybe you should acknowledge the same for Shula?

Compare the two lists that I just provided, and get back to me.

Actually, technically speaking, your post is correct. Shula did leave us with a FEW good players. However, Bama has not had to "lean on Mike Shula" or his recruits, as Saban's players have been and will continue to be much better than Shula's ever were.

Those 10 games in 2005 were won by that defense who - for the most part - were recruited by Franchonie. Shula's recruits really didn't start seeing the field until 2006.

Like it or not- there have been quite a few Shula signees and commits get drafted or sign as FA's the last couple of years. Thats a fact.

Shula left him 2 NFL potential QB's- and now he finally gets to put his own on the field next year.
Ingram and Richardson werent quite the animals they were made out to be without Johnson blocking for them this season.

It will be interesting to see a Saban guy at QB next season for the 1st time

How many did Shula send to the NFL in his final year?

Of the players that have gone to the NFL since, how many of those do you think would have made it there with Shula coaching?

And a shite ton more that were 100% Saban.

Look at last year's defense and the playmakers on offense. Nearly ALL of them were recruited and signed by Saban.

I'll also bring to the table the fact that the last Shula recruit filled team (2007) was the first Alabama team in 40 years to not have a single player selected in the NFL draft.

Hate to break it to you, but that is way below our standards. Shula won 16 games in two seasons. Saban won 14 games in one season.
Shula won 26 games in four years. Saban has won 43.
