re: Bama insiders, how much longer until Saban rides off into the crimson sunset?

And if Saban is known for anything, it's completely refusing to change with the game.

Nick seems to be getting grumpier every year. He seems miserable having to give pressers and he doesn’t seem to be getting much pleasure out of coaching anymore. And the direction that college football is taking obviously has him very upset. I wouldn’t be surprised if he hung it up after one more season. He is like that cartoon of the old guy screaming at the clouds. His age is showing and he is grumpier than hell. He is starting to look and sound like Paul Johnson, GTs former coach, who was probably the most miserable man in college football.

I wouldn’t be shocked if he quit if he won one this year.
I really don’t think Saban operates with a “legacy” mindset. The guy just has a routine, and I don’t think he’s going to retire until he physically cannot continue that routine.

I envy people like that. They don’t seem to have another, greater source of satisfaction. And you see them in all walks of life

I've heard that for 15 years. No, he doesn't put up with stupid questions and closely associates that with stupid people. Where have you been? The guy doesn't suffer fools very well. Not yesterday, today, or tomorrow.
As far as fatigue and irritation about the college game, I'd look no further than his latest recruiting rankings. As long as he has the talent and he can TEACH, that guy is going to be thrilled to lead them into battle.
Hint: He likes it a lot more than he lets on.

Someone finally said it. I agree 100%. Saban will not retire until he cannot physically or cognitively do it anymore.

Dont insult everybody's intelligence. You guys have opined, bitched about schedules, followed every step or misstep at Bama, compare all LSU things to Bama and tell this hilarious story of how Saban begged to get the LSU job back that he could have had 10 times over had he wanted it.
Lest we forget the march and burning in effigy of Saban after he took the Bama job. You think of Saban all the time.
Above “Is why I hate Bama.

Well I'm sure the annual arse beatings don't help either, right?

Which part of it is not true?

If old Nick is enjoying himself he is one fantastic actor. Deserves an Oscar.

Then you aren't very bright. Why would you intentionally want to make it harder on your team to be successful? Because that's literally what you're wanting.

He will coach until he’s on his death bed, just like Bear Bryant. When Bryant retired, he passed away. Very sad but true. When you coach at such a high level for so many years, I don’t think anything else is worth living for. It truly is their life.

Oh he is enjoying himself. He LOVES his job (coaching, recruiting, etc.) My father said if you find a job you love, you will never work a day in your life.
Coaching football is Coach Saban's hobby so until he can not longer do it or he dies, he will be Alabama's coach.

Really! Okaaay! If this is a happy man I’d hate to see one who is miserable.

My guess is 2025 will be it, and I am enjoying every bit of it since 07...or does he stick around for even 20?

Stop wish dreaming. If Coach Saban was really like you think he would have retired years ago.
We know why you hope he leaves, but child it will not happen anytime soon.

I predict 5 more seasons. I could see him going beyond that by a year or two if his health is good. The man loves football and he is closing in on a lot of records that Bear Bryant still holds (wins, conference titles, currently tied with 6 natties at Bama, etc.) 5 more years and Saban owns all the records. He pretends like he doesn’t care about that stuff, but he’s too competitive not to care.

Why would I want him to leave. It was way too much fun beating his skinny arse. Kirby is the new top Dawg. Not Saban.

I can't always tell if people are trolling or not but frick it. Ok then.
It's just the opposite of all that shite. The frickin' guy has seriously mellowed and he's said time and again, he'll do it as long as he enjoys it and so far, he still keeps fricking up the competition in every aspect of the game. Recruiting, all the way down to the sidelines. He's no better or no worse of a coach than he was five years ago. You don't continue to excel at a job you hate.
I don't think you follow Nick Saban all that much.

That’s mellow? Snapping at reporters asking normal questions. Whining about loses and looking like a sad sac every time his mug appears on camera. I’m no troll. I respect Nick for all he has accomplished. But he now acts like he is miserable and is grumpier than hell. He might be spending his days at his Georgia lake house soon. He sure doesn’t seem to be having much fun anymore
