The fact that we didn't execute the passing game particularly well wasn't by design. But the fact that we threw the ball 10 less times than our average and only threw it short (or away) was by design. No need to air it out against their strength when we are getting 8 yards on the ground any time we want.

Injuries will likely cost Bama a natty this year, just like in 2016 and 2019.
Metchie is a huge loss.

What you saw last night is simply what competent teams do to opponents that run 3-3-5/3-2-6 defenses - line up, smash them in their face, and take their lunch money.
Exactly this.
I kept hearing questions last night from family watching the game ... why isn't Bryce throwing it more? why isn't he making pinpoint throws?
Simple answer. He didn't have to. They were playing a very weak team.

Last night was similar to when we played ND or Washington. We simply put them away in a vanilla fashion. Cincy like we all thought was vulnerable to the run with their scheme. Why throw into 6 to 7 men back? Especially with 2 NFL corners buzzing around.

The loss of Pickens and Arian Smith equally changes things. Getting the best WR in the draft through the portal kind of neutralizes things

Metchie had some drops in many games, but his loss last night was CLEAR.

We jumped on ND quickly though and it was over. The game last night was a struggle more than y’all care to realize. If they recover that fumble, it’s first and goal only down by a td. Totally different game at that point. Instead Bama scored a few plays later. That changed the whole dynamics.
The game against ND I agree.

That will be an upgrade.

But when he did, it was often rough. I know Cincy never fully committed to stopping Bama’s run game. They played a bend but don’t break game really but instead of giving up short passes they gave up 6 or 7 yard runs.
The Cincy offense was throttled and kept the score not so close.

It does not. Metchie accounted for over 1200 receiving yards and I think led Alabama in receptions.

The truth is these guys got jammed a lot and could not get open
Agree with this but UGA doesn't have the Secondary to replicate what UC did.

No one really got any separation last night. The combination of Metchie and Williamson was what teams struggled to cover. We will desperately need someone to step up against Georgia.
There is a reason Georgia is favored in the game

It doesn't matter. Bama has a long bench. The guys with the striped shirts can get it done for them like they did in 2018.

This.
Metchie is a BIG loss and one I don't know if we can recover from. He was a reliable check down receiver when we needed a first down on 3rd and short/medium. He was also an underrated deep threat. In order to beat Georgia a second time we're going to have to do what we did the first time - throw the ball and protect Bryce Young while he does it. Not having Metchie on the field will be felt as he had over 100 receiving yards against the Bulldogs before his freak injury in the second quarter.

Bama fans already hung up the 2021 pennant and have the Walmart tour in place for the trophy showing.
We won’t get the team who played last night we always get Debo Bama…

UGA played a weird zone concept, started Poole who never played before in 4 seasons. Played Smith with a bum knee, shouldn't have played. Totally experimented against the top passing offense I'm assuming feeling they could afford to...
The issue for UGA was the front 7 played their worse game of the season and Bama OL played their best. It would be smart to jam the hell out of Williamson.

John Metchie-Starting WR
Emil Ekiyor-Starting OG
Chris Owens-Starting OT
Josh Jobe-Starting CB
Jalyn Armour-Davis-Starting CB
That’s 5 starters right there.
We’re also down to only 2 scholarship RB’s. McClellan, in particular, was a big loss.

Looked like the Alabama run game of old. Dominating.
