Rushing to judgment after only three sessions is unwise, but so far Ishmael Sopsher is not close being able to contribute to the 2019 Alabama Crimson Tide. Listed at 334 pounds, Sopsher should not be much overweight at 6-foot-4. Conditioning is apparently the greater problem. He has been observed being “gassed” at every practice session.

Either way, Ish must lighten up or toughen up or both. Also in need of better physical preparation is fellow freshmen Byron Young. Not as much as Sopsher, but Young has had to miss reps from being physically overstressed. Young is listed at a svelte 295 pounds.

Ouch. Will be interesting to see if nick can get him and Byron Young into shape.

I wasn’t impressed by his Senior year tape honestly. Was too high all the time and massively out of shape.

That's what I saw a lot of people saying too. The problem is that he's lazy. He's talented as frick, but if he continues to be lazy, all that talent is gonna be wasted.

If he buys in and works hard he will be a beast in two years.

My thoughts are LSU fans must be mad to make a thread on Tiger Rant ripping the kid, and that this is a response thread.

54 up votes about a kid failing. THIS IS LSU!

ETA - LOL, three down votes in under a minute. What a weak bunch.

Your head coach offered his retarded brother in an effort to land this tub of lard, and now LSU fans will act like they never wanted him

I didn’t say anything about wanting him or not wanting him.

We definitely wanted him. Thankfully Ika is doing well so far and our 2020 class is loaded with top DL

It also didn't help that our DLine was our weakest spot. Even if he's fat and lazy, having him would've definitely helped with depth and if he got down to weight, he'd definitely play.

Nobody expected him to come in and be ready to contribute his freshman year. It was always going to be a process to get him mentally and physically in shape to unlock his massive talents.

So, not a surprise at all. Pretty sure everyone knew this would be the start of a process for him, but that if he buys in and figures it out he'll be an unstoppable force in a year or two. If not, he'll probably leave. We clearly decided that was worth the risk.

A lot of fans didnt want him, this is a fact. Whatever the coaching staff did is irrelevant (we were in major need of DLineman and he was "best in state"), he has major issues and he will have to really get them ironed out at Bama if he's ever going to contribute. Being lazy doesnt matter how talented you are, it wont get you anywhere in the SEC.

Well there were LSU fans questioning his work ethic long before he committed to Bama

I don't think a freshman showing up out of shape is anything to be worried about this early in the game. We had the same problem with Tyler Shelvin, who is now said to be in great shape and expected to make huge contributions this year. I'm sure Saban will have him playing at full potential at some point in his career.

Definitely, we just weren’t in a position to turn him away. You can’t just hand a 5* kid at a position of need to Bama regardless of his work ethic.

Everybody questioned his work ethic. Nobody questioned his talent level. It was a risk that everyone in America was willing to take.

Kid is the football equivalent of a low floor/high ceiling baseball prospect who is currently 17 and in the Gulf Coast League. We'll know a lot more in 12-18 months.

Never seen him play a down of football (same with pretty much all of the freshmen) so no real thoughts on him yet. There will only be a handful of freshmen ready or expected to contribute this year. From the news you quoted it sounds like this guy will not be one of them. That's okay. There is depth in front of him and time for him to develop like most freshman have to do before they can play SEC football.

Yea he has had a tough time in fall camp so far.

It's interesting because out of this all star DL recruiting class coming in the highest ranked in Sopsher is performing as the worst and the lowest ranked in DJ Dale is performing as our best.

Recruiting stars aren't everything. Georgia fans need to learn this. I constantly hear from the pups how many 3 stars UF has compared to them but Dan Mullen could develop weaker talent at Miss St...what do you think he'll do with top 10 classes?
