A rival in terms of historical and traditional sense, no.
A rival in terms of being the one consistent team over the last decade with the horses to match up with the Tide, absolutely.
I honestly believe what annoys old Nick is that even when LSU is outcoached and finds themselves short on the depth chart, even when they're getting their asses kicked, even when it's 7 in a row, they are the only team with a real puncher's chance.
And that's unnerving. Even if Alabama plays their absolute best game of football, they have consistently been the only team that can frick it all up anyways.
Alabama's losses over the last seven years cannot be attributed to other teams being better. Or playing better.
When they have lost, it's been their own damned fault.
And that's what made pre 1/9 Les one of the greats. He didn't care who you were or what you had accomplished. He'd sic his killers on you and laugh.
Then he lost his nerve.
1/9 ruined him and it legitimately ruined football in a lot of ways.
There needs to be two or three perennial powers. Real powers.
And I'm gonna laugh my arse off if the loosingest coach in ole miss history is the one to somehow correct it.

In the past six years Alabama has lost to Ole Miss, Auburn and A&M.. yet you guys continue to say Saban believes you are our only threat.
This is why everyone thinks your fanbase is deluded.

I don't consider them a rival, nor do I even dislike their team.
I find their Internet fans obnoxious as shite. That's pretty much it.

straight from the Bama board...

Is it just me or does Saban fudge just a little bit on The Process by putting a little added emphasis on this game? Maybe it's because the stakes or so high..or maybe he just likes beating 7SU just a little more than other rivals. I don't see the same fire and determination against Auburn or Tennessee as I do against the Bayou Bengals. Does anyone else notice it? Or do you write it off to this being the high stakes poker game between the 2 constant superpowers in the SEC West?

I think this is the number one rivalry game for Coach Saban. He wants to win this one more than any other on our schedule, playoffs excluded. That has been my observation all along.

Yeah they hate us but they really hate themselves! LOL! We have won 7 in a row against them. We are 10 and 0 against the combo of UGA and UF over the past 10 years with many if not most of the games being blowouts. So comparatively speaking LSU has been a much closer game than the best (UF, UGA and UT) from the east. So yes, the games have been highly competitive. LSU as a team is getting better and is usually the most talented team on our schedule each year. The top 5 players headed into this years NFL draft has 2 Tigers. They have a talent rich state and no competition and Ed O hired and trained Hugh Freeze to recruit. Enough said. But we have owned that arse for the most part. And unlike the butt beatings we issue to the top teams in the east (20 and 0 against a combo of UGA, UF and UT over the past 0 years) the games have usually been competitive.

They went 7-17-1 outside of [2000 to 2011] from 1982 to 2017.

Okay, so from 1982 to 1999, and then 2012 to 2017, LSU went 7-17-1 - which is not competitive. Got it.
So you want to include LSU worst period in history, but exclude Alabama's worst period in history to make your point that LSU hasn't been competitive with Alabama since Bear left.
Let's simplify this, and remove the last ten years (the last "decade") and look at LSU vs Alabama since Bear's last season to Saban's first season:
1982-2007: LSU 13-12-1 vs Alabama.
In short, during the interim between Alabama's two GOAT coaches, LSU was just as competitive with Alabama as Tennessee and Auburn.
In terms of just being competitive in the SEC historically, in 1993 LSU had winning records vs all SEC teams, except just Alabama and Tennessee.

No, and the way you tell is Alabama fans do not really talk a lot about LSU unless it is the two weeks before the game (due to the off-week.) During the off-season Alabama fans barely talk about LSU at all (maybe one thread every 3 months.)
Compare that with LSU fans that talk about Alabama year round.

Yeah, that's historically one-sided. 7-0 in the last seven.
Who are we kidding?

Bama Fans: do you consider LSU a rival?
It doesn't matter what the fans consider. Gimme a break. Saban has long considered LSU his biggest threat. It's so obvious. Look at how his teams have played against LSU vs other teams. He made his biggest threat his focus and we've all seen the results unfortunately for LSU fans.

I consider every in the SEC as a conference rival. Everyone in the West as division rival. If auburn and ut weren't in the SEC I would still consider them as rivals. If LSU wasn't in the SEC I wouldn't think of them as a rival.

Maybe in the past, recently, like Tennessee...they are just speed bumps.

For it to be a rivalry LSU has to win more than they do. Just real talk.
