We are a better team than last year. I don't know if we are a tournament team, but we are showing an offense that has signs of life which has been a rare feat under Grant. We lost last night because of some mistakes on the defensive side of the ball rather than ineptitude on the offensive side. I think we will beat a few good teams this year while also inexplicably losing to a few bad teams. This team may have the makings of a bubble team. I am a posibammer for Alabama Basketball though.

Yea, I am not going to get too down on the defensive stuff because Iowa State is going to be one of the 5-10 best offensive teams in the country this season. Hoiberg is a master at teaching the spread offense and they have 5 really versatile guys on offense. That is a really good team. Also, we have a bunch of new guys trying to mesh together and one of the last things that comes with that is figuring out help defense and transition defense. Last night was the worst team to have to play when you are still figuring that stuff out.

This team gets after it, plays tough and not scared and has some raw weapons offensively. With all that said, we have to win some of the remaining OOC games (Arizona State, @ Xavier, @ Wichita, UCLA) and not slip up against Appy State or North Florida to make me feel like this team has any tournament chance.

i don't see much difference ... yeah, we're better shooters now, but we have no offensive "know how" ... one trip down the floor last night shows that ... taylor or hale got the ball down low and was immediately doubled ... the other 4 players didn't move an inch while he tried to look for a pass to someone ... decent 3 pt shooting last night, but when the treys don't fall, you'll get behind quickly ...

But tonite is HUGE for us going forward.

Yes, could be the biggest game of the year (as silly as that sounds). Would be a huge win over a bubble type team away from home and probably our best remaining chance (along with UCLA) to get a nice OOC win. Not to mention it would show something coming off a tough fought loss the night before.

I'm sure people were saying the same thing last year when we only lost by 10 to Duke.

Prior to that game, the OP was predicting that Bama would BEAT Duke.

Anthony Grant's glasses aren't as crimson tinted as the OP's.

I disagree. After watching us the first few games against lesser opponents and then last night against a legitimate Top 10 team I think our offensive rhythm is night and day better. The most important difference is the guys don't stand around and wait for Trevor to make something happen like they seemed to for the past 2 years.

But we will see as time goes forward.

If one wants to view ignorance in action, all they really need to is look at your previous predictions about Alabama basketball - particularly last season.

Care to address how those turned out?

The mentality of guys like Coleman, Randolph, Tarrant, Norris and apparently Cooper(last night) will keep us from being the type team that folds...

We probably should have used Kessens more than Taylor in the post last night.. Taylor doesn't give us much against highly skilled teams and at least Kessens can shoot from range but again it's all coming together.

OP also said that Blake Sims would be Bama's starting QB and break all kinds of Bama records... yet he doesn't harp on that nearly as much as he could. Let it go Dude.

Why do some of you care if the OP is optimistic about Bama basketball? None of us make the decisions to hire or fire coaches, so we might as well be supportive of the product that is being put out there. Yes we have the right to demand a better basketball team, but they did look ok tonight at least offensively. I personally doubt we are a tourney team, but I am optimistic that we now have an offense that can at least score with anybody. Defense is another story. I just don't understand why some of you are so jaded as to bash a Bama fan for actually supporting the program.

I watched most of the second half, and, to me, they looked like a completely different team than any of Grant's other Bama teams. That's enough to keep me interested for now. I'll be skeptically optimistic.

It embarrasses them somehow... they are so hypersensitive to what other fans think that they are scared to cheer for their own team... ALSO they just don't like me very much lol.

I've been following Bama basketball since CM Newton was coach. I'll always support them, but when someone like the OP tells other posters to
quote:

get lost chump

and
quote:

Just follow football you look less ignorant

because they've got the gall to view his sunshine pumping with entirely understandable skepticism based on both Alabama's history under Grant and the OP's past delusions I'll call him out on it every single time.

I'm cautiously optimistic about this Bama team. They've got a lot of good looking players an more depth than they've had in years, but until they prove they can close out games when it matters (something they failed to do yet again last night), they're just a prettier product than what we've seen since Grant's arrival.

Oh, and one more thing for the OP.

quote:

you must have.. since before last season we won 20+ games three years straight 1st time in Bama history under Grant.. yeah you have amnesia

You really shouldn't be diagnosing amnesia when you make statements like this one. Under Wimp Sanderson, Alabama won 20 games three seasons in a row from 1984-1986 and then four seasons in a row from 1988-1991. More directly, they won 20 or more games and went to the NCAAs in 10 of Wimp's 12 seasons - making the Sweet 16 in 6 of those trips.

Thus far, the only thing Grant's done that is historically better than Wimp is make choices in the fashion department.

Edited to add - CM Newton won 20 or more games 5 seasons in a row at Alabama (1972-1977) but if you didn't know Wimp existed, you probably didn't know CM coached at Bama before he went to Vandy.

Diss the Plaid?

I miss the Plaid Palace something terrible but it was a look only Winp could make work. To this day, I can't understand why we couldn't have just hired Maggie Gyllenhaal to be his secretary.

This is a "do good or get fired year" for CAG. I like him and hope he finally figures it out. But there are a lot of Bama fans that won't him gone even if he has a good year. So he'll be on the hot seat for the next 2 years.

StepL serious question, are you Hunter Johnson?

Grant won 13 games last season in his 5th season as head coach. He has had one single tournament team and this team wont make the tournmanent either.

Tidefans might be more down your alley
