I would say our troops fighting overseas. But obviously you hate America and think playing football is tougher than fighting for our freedom.

Teddy was a jackass too. If you're going old-school badass, go with Thomas Jefferson or James Madison, hell George Washington was probably the baddest badass of that day.
All-time badass?
Arkansas wins that one.

Audie Murphy was from Farmersville, Texas. He was definitely a badass of the highest order.

I'll throw my dad out there. Has to be one of the toughest individual alive today.
1986 - Mild Heart Attack
1993 - Mild Heart attack/Bypass Surgery
1995 - Appendix removal
1996 - Gout Surgery on both big toes
1998 - Stents placed in artery
2001 - Stung by wasps while doing work at our poultry houses. After never being allergic his entire life went into anaphylaxis shock. Nearly died
2001 - Open Heart Surgery. Bypassed the earlier stents because of scar tissue. Had Aortic valve replaced
2001 - Given the drug Trayslol during Open Heart Surgery. He had a hemorrhagic stroke. 31 days of ICU. 6 months of rehab. Total left side paralysis
2002 - His paralyzed shoulder was drooping/self dislocating. Complete shoulder replacement. Complications this time including bed sores and a mini stroke
2003 - Meningitis
2003 - Severe case of the Flu during the 2003 outbreak. Had to be put in ICU for 10 days
2004 - Dislocated right, un-paralyzed hip in car accident. Again requiring hospitalization
2004 - Mild Seizures that were causing his vision to get much worse
2005 - Severe Case of bed sores requiring hospitalization. Led to blood poisoning
2005 - Severe seizures requiring hospitalization
2006 - Broke his left, paralyzed leg tailgating at the Bama/Hawaii game. Had to have a rod inserted from the knee to the ankle. Complications included a mini stroke
2006 - Problems with his blood sugar requiring hospitalization
2007 - Stomach Virus led to hospitalization after nearly dying from dehydration
2007 - Blood thickness/clotting (PT/INR) messed up for unknown reasons. That was a 2 week icu stay.
2008 - Car accident. Hospitalized for relatively minor injuries and a mild concussion
2009 - Mini-stroke
2009 - Kidney problems related to his condition.
2010 - Ulcers at the top and bottom of his stomach were causing internal bleeding. Had to receive several pints of blood and surgery to repair them.
2010 - Severe seizures requiring hospitalization
2011 - Had a benign growth in his testicles that caused severe pain/large amounts of swelling. Had to be removed.
2012 - Lymphadenitis - swelling/infection in the lymph nodes.
2013 - They finally put the poor man in a permanent port so he doesn't have to be stuck quite as much now. Not that he has many if any veins you can work with.
2013 - Gall Bladder removal
2013 - Had his remaining teeth removed and replaced with implants.
And like I said despite complete left side paralysis (including though he can see out the left eye he has no left side peripheral vision) the guy still gets up every day (I care for my dad before I go to work as a teacher), is fairly independent (doesn't require caretaker during the day), and he still hunts/fishes/helps me with our cows/gardens/goes to Bama games and unless he is in the hospital is at every game when I am coaching whether it is football or softball.
