Another option I see in that picture is:

Auburn
Florida
Georgia
South Carolina

Kentucky
North Carolina
Vanderbilt
Virginia Tech

Alabama
Mississippi State
Ole Miss
Tennessee

Arkansas
LSU
Mizzou
Texas A&M

Why don't we send Texas A&M and Missouir to the Big 12. Tell UNC and Duke to stay in the ACC.

We can call our new conference the.......SEC.

NC won't separate from Duke. If you change that to NC State, then you will have it right.

I guarantee you we won't go to 16 without UNC.

UNC won't happen. NC State is the only choice from North Carolina.

This is actually an extremely desirable scenario. Folks fail to realize how much easier it will be to schedule pods with 9 SEC games annually.

Pods 1&2 form a division, Pods 3&4 from another. Rotate Pod pairings every two years. You could even maintain a permanent rival from each pod. Go to a 3-4-1-1 format. You see everyone home/home every 6 years.

I'd feel about NC State the way the majority of you feel about Mizzou.

So, frick that. We're already getting our check. Keep those fricks out.

These games would need to be kept through permarivals:

Auburn/Georgia
Alabama/Tennessee
North Carolina/Virginia Tech
Ole Miss/LSU

You'd play:
Everyone in your pod (3 games)
One permanent from each other pod (3 games)
1 rotating from each pod (3 games)

I wish we just kept it at 12. So much better. That being said the almighty dollar trumps all

Do you not think that the two eastern pods are too unbalanced? You may want to swap UNC & Vandy to even them out a bit.

East Pod
Florida
Georgia
Vanderbilt
South Carolina

Appalachian Pod
Kentucky
Tennessee
Virginia Tech
North Carolina

South Pod
Alabama
Auburn
Ole Miss
Mississippi State

West Pod
Arkansas
LSU
Missouri
Texas A&M

That wouldn't work if you keep the "division" format with pods.

Play everyone in your pod annually - 3 games. Play everyone in your rotating "paired" pod - 4 games. This forms your division for two years. Play your permanent rival from each of the remaining two pods - 2 games. Total of 9.

Winners of each paired pod divisions play in SEC Championship.

Why add NC State? They suck at everything and aren't getting better. Mizzou is 10X more valuable than NC State.

Vandy fans would love this division, but I don't think it will happen.

Who are you going to add? The SEC expansion to 16 will be in Virginia and North Carolina. NC and Duke won't separate and the SEC would not take both. That leaves NC State and one of the Va schools.

I am not wild about getting NCSU. But if that is our only in to the state of North Carolina, then it needs to be done. They better bring the cable sets with them though.

Western Division is spread too far apart. We need some closer schools because the SECr has determined our fanbase won't travel. We need closer teams, that's it.

You could do it that way with a permanent rival from each of the other pods and play 9 conference games, or you could do with with only one total rival a play 8 conference games.

Here is what pods with only one permanent cross pod rival would look like:

South Pod – Cross Pod Teams
Alabama - Tennessee
Auburn - Georgia
Ole Miss - LSU
Mississippi State - Vanderbilt

West Pod – Cross Pod Teams
Arkansas - Florida
LSU - Ole Miss,
Missouri - Kentucky
Texas A&M - Virginia Tech

East Pod – Cross Pod Teams
Florida - Arkansas
Georgia - Auburn
Vanderbilt - Mississippi State
South Carolina – North Carolina

Appalachian Pod – Cross Pod Teams
Kentucky - Missouri
Tennessee - Alabama
Virginia Tech - Texas A&M
North Carolina – South Carolina

Here is what the pods would look like with a permanent cross pod rival from each of the other pods:

South Pod – Cross Pod Teams
Alabama – Tennessee, Florida, Arkansas
Auburn – Virginia Tech, Georgia, Texas A&M
Ole Miss – North Carolina, Vanderbilt, LSU
Mississippi State – Kentucky, South Carolina, Missouri

West Pod – Cross Pod Teams
Arkansas – Tennessee, Alabama, South Carolina
LSU – North Carolina, Ole Miss, Florida
Missouri - Kentucky, Mississippi State, Vanderbilt
Texas A&M - Virginia Tech, Auburn, Georgia

East Pod – Cross Pod Teams
Florida –Alabama, LSU, Kentucky
Georgia – Auburn, Texas A&M, Virginia Tech
Vanderbilt - Ole Miss, Missouri, Tennessee
South Carolina - Mississippi State, Arkansas, North Carolina

Appalachian Pod – Cross Pod Teams
Kentucky – Mississippi State, Missouri, Florida
Tennessee – Alabama, Arkansas, Vanderbilt
North Carolina – Ole Miss, LSU, South Carolina
Virginia Tech – Auburn, Texas A&M, Georgia

Personally, I don't think the geographical lines have to be perfect. I'd worry about evening the pods out, maintaining rivalries and then geography, in that order. Something along the lines of the following would spread out some of the upper and lower tier programs, allow rivalries to be maintained and aren't completely out of whack geographically.

UF UGA VTech UK

SC UT Vandy NC

LSU A&M MSU MU

Bama Aub Ark OM

UF/UGA = SC/UT = LSU/A&M = Bama/Aub(yes historically, not now)
VTech/UK = Vandy/NC = MSU/MU = Ark/OM

Pretty sure you can maintain the rivalries and though the geographical groupings aren't necessarily the tightest, it's not like UF and MU are in the same pod. I'm sure it could be tweaked but just not putting as much emphasis on geography.
