It's a slippery slope, because once they go too conservative with protecting the players, they can't go back. They will never change the rules to make it MORE dangerous, so I don't like where this is heading. Pretty soon, they'll have to sissy tackle like in Aussie Rules Football.

Is this to try to reduce injuries during kickoff? If so, thats lame. This isn't the NFL...

Yes

Not that the game eventualy mattered but are you serious? If you would have had a better kicker you would have won on Nov 5th. the Kicking/Punting game can keep a team in a game they otherwise would not have been. See AU/LSU 2010. They are worth a scholarship or two

The rest of the story is that the ball will be spotted at the 35 but the team must still be behind the 30 at the kick. And touchbacks come out to the 25.
Ps. the new bama kicker kicked 55yd fgs off the ground. The Scout guy who rated him said he was the best kicker he had ever rated.I looked up the guy after all the missed fg in our game at BDS in Nov.

No further than the 30yd line. So they dont have enough room to get a good running start

I don't think he has. Kicker just aren't that important. A lot of people blame Cade Foster for the November 5th LSU loss but if Bama had executed like they should have, the game never would have been left up to Foster's foot. The offense made mistake after mistake when they were on LSU's side of the field. A.J. not seeing and missing open receivers, taking the sack in OT, Brandon Gibson running the wrong route allowing Eric Reid to intercept the ball, the countless number of plays that went for negative or minimal yardage while in LSU's side of the field all played a much bigger role in the loss. The offense did everything in their power to lose that game. They should have gotten the lion's share of the blame for the loss not Cade Foster.

Somebody will try to get a 109 KO return... After the NFL changed, a lot more deep kickoff returns (5 yards deep or more) were attempted.

That being said, what a great advantage if your kickoffs result in 90% or more touchbacks. And the 10% or so might end up starting from worse than the 20.

That's the problem with evaluating high school kickers...the one that gave us the most problems on Nov. 5th is on scholarship.

I don't know who coaches your kickers, but they're doing it right. Ya'll seem to always have above average kickers.

Were your recent kickers given a scholarship out of high school, after they got to campus and won the job, or never given a scholarship?

Yes, all have been recruits signing LOI's. there is a huge difference between college kicking and HS.

Even in the Pros they know kicking is a valuable necessity. They dont waste draft picks on it every year but when they see a good one they will use it.

FWIW a very good friend of mine was a 2nd rd pick as a kicker and was a 4 star out of HS

He hit the upright and it went through. First time I've ever seen it done IRL.
