current day revisionist "historians" saying "Oh, Sherman burned the south to teach a lesson about the cruelties of war"

Sherman didn't conduct his march to teach lessons, he did it to end the war as quickly as possible. Made it pretty clear in his memoirs.

He hated the war, and he knew that fighting it half-assed would make it drag on for years and ultimately cost more lives and more suffering than fighting it brutally with a total war mentality which would end the death and suffering sooner with an overall lesser casualty count.

He is referred to by some historians as the father of Total War, and the principles he based the approach on would eventually become the central principles of the US government and military in WW1 and WW2. Most notably in the dripping of aromic of atomic bombs on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. i.e. a properly directed amount of overwhelmingly force today can prevent an exponentially greater amount of death and destruction in the future by ending the conflict as quickly as possible.

I didn't say he did. I said history revisionists say that

Also, I'm not a lapdog for the military industrial complex, so no, it's not okay to commit war atrocities so as to "win the war quickly"

conduct his march

You mean burn houses, leave women and children homeless and vulnerable to the wild animals, after also not just stealing their food, but destroying what they couldn't take

Starvation of children

Orders to punish "old and young, rich and poor"

How about the poor who barely owned the clothes on their backs, and only fought because they were attacked

Leave it to an Aggie to spout govt approved lies

That was the old Marks Rothenberg department store when I was a kid. Regular stop on our Saturday trips to Meridian.

Not anger, just comparing things. It’s what architecture is. I’m not crazy about Gainesville either, and their stadium is a dump, but the old campus is nice.

My daughter had to see a specialist in Brewton and I was surprised at the number of beautiful old houses. They may have been closer to the turn of the century, but just really lovely homes.
