He cleaned much of that up the last 3-4 games. he has a great football mind and can read the offense well, you don't bench a guy like that without trying to find a spot for him on the field.
This is the only thing I can think of. I think Bates quickly grasps concepts and knows where to be, but 1) he's terribly undersized and 2) he plays out of control constantly. The guy can't make a tackle for trying to make SportsCenter's Top 10 every Saturday with a bone-crushing hit. Just break down and make a fundamental tackle.
He might've led our team in tackles last year (although I thought Neiko did), but honestly he should've had closer to 200 tackles. His form and angles are terrible. Not good for a third-year starter.
I hope somebody can come in and beat Bates out this year, but with Chiz' love for the guy, I don't think it will happen.

Me too Rocky.
All these guys we have returning were pretty much only out of HS for <1.5 years at the start of last season (especially on the DL). I feel like there will be a big jump in production from all the young guys.

Why is he still wearing gloves?

The thing about Bates last year, is that he was out of control a ton during the beginning of the season. Towards the end of the season, he started playing more under control, and he really started to come on. If he can continue that progress, he should have a good season this year. No more of his patented "speeding missile" tackling style.

He is ready to go Spr. He is serious...lol Could be right before or after practice when the interview took place.

Is it good or bad for CJ with his move to TE?

I thought the same thing when I read that. I surely hope Loeffler doesn't start that whiney bitch.
Would seem to me that a QB worth his salt would LOVE the chance to learn and perform in a complex pro-style offense.

Let's ask CJ how he feels about moving to TE.
quote:
"The plays in the playbook are so extensive," Uzomah said. "The plays he has in store for us, the different packages, it's unbelievable what he plans to do with us. It's really exciting."
With the emergence of the more athletic and fast tight ends in the pro game, should be good for CJ in the long run. He has a good work ethic as well. If he can learn to block along with catching the ball, he has the athleticism and size to be a good TE. Bottom line it is up to CJ to make it a good move.

CJ was almost certainly going to be moved to TE eventually, even if Malzahn stayed.

If he shows good hands, it is good.
Because, as others pointed out on the previous page, Brandon Fulse is a physical beast but does not have very good hands (for now at least).
If Uzomah can catch at his current size and show even a decent ability to block, he's likely to be Lutz's primary back-up.

We have a damn good group of tight ends, and probably the best group in the SEC. Lutz, Parks, Hutcherson, Uzomah, and Fulse. I'm not worried about that position at all right now.

Agreed Joey. I am so looking forward to what he can do.
