Auburn University Press Release

We are proud to announce that the Auburn Tigers football team will play a preseason scrimmage versus the CFL Ottawa Rough Riders in Montreal. This one of a kind fan experience will be a home game for Auburn to open their season. AD John Cohen stated the Auburn family is looking forward to the 1,320 mile road trip and enjoying snow cones in the stadium parking lot.

You'll have the home field advantage (you're playing Baylor), but it does screw the season ticket holders and the students. I wouldn't have thought $5 million would be enough to give up a home non-conference game against a P4 opponent that was already under contract. Maybe the NIL angle talked about in the press release was the motivating factor, although I find that hard to believe.

I don't really get it unless there's some kind of loophole that lets us funnel more to the players. I think most people estimate a home game in Auburn is worth 15m to the local economy. Numbers don't add up.

This paying players shite has gotten so old.

They'll probably be selling home games to Saudi sheiks to be played in Dubai before long.

That home schedule is arse. At least you get to play in butthole stadium. It’s nicer than Auburn.

No, but we have a compulsion to monetize everything.
My understanding is that they moved the game to Atlanta in exchange for the Atlanta kickoff game hosts and sponsors to provide NIL opportunities to the Auburn players to promote the game and be in ads and whatnot. I get what they’re trying to do, but I’d be livid if I was an Auburn fan or season ticket holder. Hell, I’m pissed about the precedent it sets for other teams to follow suit with incentivizing these vanilla atmosphere neutral site games

Before you know it, college games will be the halftime show for nfl games. This sport is beyond dead

This has literally been the most viewed college football season in history to this point. But sure, it’s dead

That's really true. But, unless and until fans stop coming and subscribing to ESPN, there's zero incentive for AD's to change that.

It’s not ESPN killing college football. Contrary, without ESPN and the other networks, where would money for other programs come from?

Relax, while all the degreed hard core fans pay thousands each year to travel and see their favorite team, I can spend $50 for some cold beer, baby back ribs, salsa and chips, turn the air down, plop down in my comfortable chair and be at the 50 yard line every game.

I say thank you ESPN.

At ULM baseball games, foul balls are sponsored by Taco Bell.

How does Auburn come out ahead in this scenario?

Will they have to split revenues on the remaining 46,000 tickets sold by the game vs keeping all revenue on home game ticket sales?

Auburn will receive an allotment of 20,645 tickets for the game, while Baylor will receive the SEC standard 3,000 tickets held for visiting teams. The Aflac Kickoff Game will sell the remaining inventory.

Why can't schools just sell sponsorship rights to the game in home stadium? Could Aflac just pick the best OOC game on a campus and claim that as a kickoff?

Is there some rule that a game must be played at a neutral site?
