I know that my friends that went to Auburn still hang out with their hometown crowd(save a few), and me and most of the people from my hometown that go to Alabama have friends from everywhere around the nation.

National exposure of UA is exactly the reason Auburn has the better reputation nationally. Think Wallace standing in the school house door, worshiping football coaches, the Mikes, Forest Gump, etc.
Or some might still think about Dye on 60 minutes, the frat black face incident/klan costume party, etc.. Stupid making those comparisons when Au has black eyes of its own in that regard.

Why wouldn't Bama be more popular nationally? Its a state school for Christ's sake. Think of the biggest/best schools for sports and you think:
Florida
Texas
Alabama
Michigan
Georgia
Oklahoma
I know there are teams like USC, Notre Dame, Stanford that are huge but predominantly its states school that people think of.
FWIW Auburn is ranked higher academically according to US News & World Report.

it doesnt matter anyway, both schools are fun, and academically good.

This is the saddest thread I have ever read.

I know, how does this not make sense? Alabama's student pop is larger and Auburn has no interest in expanding. They like it around 25,000 they really do like the whole family thing. Not just saying that either.

I'd have to say Auburn.
Please...if you get out of the Southeast most people don't even know where Auburn is located.

I've been living in this state close to four years and Alabama definitely gets the most coverage media wise. It's a shame but Auburn could be 11-0 in football and Alabama could be 0-11 and the sports segment on the news would start with The Crimson Tide. I started LSU in 1968 and in '69 we had a home day game against Auburn. I had no idea where that school was located because I never heard of it before.

But, let's be realistic here, while each SEC school has it's strengths, I don't really think is is fair to talk about one being a lesser school, with the exception of Vandy & FL, they are all overall about the same with strengths in certain programs, but most of them are generally about even. With the exception of certain programs, most of the SEC aren't schools you brag about going to for academic reasons.
Nice try, but no one--and I do mean no one--is going to confuse Vanderbilt with UF. Keep dreaming.

Well I'd rather people think were in Georgia...
I love when Auburn fans say this. Do you honestly think that rural Georgia has a better reputation than rural Alabama? Well, it doesn't. They're equally frowned upon. And, like it or not, many people outside of the south still look down on Atlanta as a second-class city because it's in the deep south.

Who gives a frick what anyone outside the south thinks anyway?
