I somewhat viewed AU as a school people outside Alabama would enjoy going to. Not sure why. Plus when people think of AUBURN they don't think of the color in most respects. When people think of Alabama the first thing they think of is .... _______ insert here.
Good question... I think of it this way... AU offers a bunch of majors that other areas of the country might not have university with a strong reputation -- architecture, vet med, certain engineering disciplines, pharmacy, any agriculture... Im sure there are more.
Alabama has a good business school, law school.... stuff you can find anywhere.

Cool, US News ranked them 70. Other SEC schools ranked: Florida @ 30, Vandy @ 37, UT @ 74, MSU @ 81, Kentucky @ 86, and LSU squeaked in the top 100 @ 99 lol.

Auburn has a very strong national alumni base. I've met people in almost every state I've been to who have graduated from Auburn.

A lot of people from Georgia go to Auburn because they couldn't get into UGA or Tech and it is a much better/more fun school than Southern or Columbus State or VSU or wherever. That was the case at my highschool at least.

UGA has an engineering school?

quote:No bragging, but I could have gone to either if I had wanted, but I wanted to do engineering, and my high school was in midtown, so going to Tech would have just been like an extension of high school, so I went to AU.

Can't speak for other states, but from a state of Georgia perspective, Auburn is more attractive. Lots of kids from my high school went to Auburn...about 3 went to Alabama.
B/c Auburn is about 20 minutes from the GA line and AL is 2-3 hours from the GA line.
I think each school has it's strengths, AL law school and business school are very good, AU has a good vet school and engineering school.
But, let's be realistic here, while each SEC school has it's strengths, I don't really think is is fair to talk about one being a lesser school, with the exception of Vandy & FL, they are all overall about the same with strengths in certain programs, but most of them are generally about even. With the exception of certain programs, most of the SEC aren't schools you brag about going to for academic reasons.
quote:I think everyone can say this, I've met people from every SEC school in pretty much every state, it isn't any sort of scientific fact that means one has s stronger base.

Just checked....Auburn's enrollment is 43% out of state, Bama is 37% out of state, UGA is 18% and LSU is 21%. Vandy is 84%....which makes sense since it is a private school.

I had a 3.75 and a 1220 SAT and didn't get into UGA, now that I'm at Auburn I'm glad I didn't get in.

FIFY. How clever of you to add in Florida, when they are further apart from Vandy than UGA.

FWIW, I don't think the poster was being a smartass earlier when he asked if UGA had an engineering program.

Oh me either. I was sincere asking what the ranking was. I honestly didn't know UGA had an engineering dept. I graduated 06 though so they may have added one since then.
