They never did. They were advised to, but I don't think they ever officially did
He was never suspended. He was declared ineligible the Monday AFTER the UGA game. He was then reinstated the next day and it what happened was announced either on Wednesday or Tuesday evening (think it was Wednesday).

No, they didn't. The rumor was he wasn't gonna play, but AU never planned on suspending him. You're thinking of before the SEC Championship, where he was ruled ineligible for a day before it was appealed and overturned

He did beat #1 Florida in 2001. The game didn't have to come to a final FG by Duval if Cobb didn't fumble the ball at the 5 yard line into the endzone with 4 minutes to go.

Yes, that is exactly what I was thinking of.
To me that was a suspension of sorts (which is what I was thinking), but I guess it was just more "temporarily ineligible".
Still, we dotted our i's and crossed our t's exactly as the NCAA required at the time is the point I was trying to make.
