I remember reading the same and it was in regards to Travis Williams.

Yeah, it was Travis Williams.

I heard it direct from a few people whose opinion I'd trust, but it was also printed a few places, as TTs said

Maybe he’s not used to winning it all like he’ll do here.

Well his ceiling is winning the AAC, since UCF will never be able to play for it all at the D1 level. Gus can do that, he almost won it all at the D1 level, something UCF has never done.

If his play calling and schemes match his energy and recruiting it's a lights out hire. Only time will tell but it's worth the risk. Worst case scenario he will leave good players behind for the next guy if it doesn't work out

Depends on what Gus is running down there. He has been a hyper-HUNH team and he has been deliberate. Is he calling plays again and longing for the days of Nick Marshall? Given the recent history of UCF, I would think Gus is going to be taking a trip back to the future. Not good for any DC.

Very true, if that's the case a good DC hire is almost impossible.

UCF needs to get AU on the schedule. I want to see the crawfishing when Gus beats them.

Would that game likely be played in Auburn? When is the last time Malzahn won a road game against a Big Six opponent?

Answer, Tennessee 2013, which was 2-6 in conference

Malzahn ain’t winning a big road game. He lost 14 straight at Auburn.

Danny White wasn't signing up for any game against power 5 teams unless it was home and home. The barn won't want to play in their crackerbox stadium. And Orlando Citrus Bowl Stadium was out of the picture.

Danny Boy was running scared. Maybe the new guy had a backbone.

I wasn’t overly impressed with him but he was highly thought of by a lot of Auburn fans who were very disappointed that he wasn’t retained by Harsin. He is a safe hire for Gus and might end up being very good. I like Gus and I’ll be pulling for him to do a good job for UCF.

I think this is an angle people are missing. He worked for Gus at Auburn, so Malzahn is aware of his abilities. It says something that Malzahn wanted him at UCF as the DC. He'll turn out to be a good hire.

He has dropped down to UCF. I think that should answer your question.

Future Head Coach material but needs more experience. Not sure about DC yet. Reminds me of a Dabo Swinney type who could go from position coach to head coach. High energy, great recruiter. Class guy.
