You do realize outside those “fluke plays”, no other SEC team in the history of CFB ever lead the nation in rushing. That 2013 Auburn offense was one of the best in the history of the sec in terms of yds. So that year was no fluke.

Blame UGA DBs for having a WR outnumbered and not coming down with an INT.

Or Blame Bama begging to get a second on the clock to kick a 50yd+ FG with a green kicker. Then Auburn froze their kicker with a timeout and they inserted their Punt Returner instead of a safety that was out there.

We call these “fluke plays”

I'm not saying Auburn didn't deserve the success they attained in 2010 and 2013. I'm just saying I believe the circumstances were unusual and not likely to be replicated in the Harsin era. I'm just not feeling it.

And my feeling on Auburn not winning the SEC and/or making the playoffs (or let's saying semifinals when expansion comes) has more to do with Harsin than Auburn.

There are several SEC teams whose odds would be even longer than AU for making the playoffs.

And I would bet the house against them too.

Culture, momentum, chemistry and even luck plays a major part in winning titles not just stars and recruiting titles.

Case and point…UGA has probably out recruited Auburn for majority of 40 plus years and they have 0 titles to show for it. They had 0 SEC Championships titles from 83-01. 3 SEC titles since 1983 (02&05&17)

From 1980-82 they did indeed win 3 straight SEC titles but since they only have 3 SEC Championship wins and 1 national title appearance.

0 undefeated seasons since 83 but recruiting wins titles…

Really? No shite? Wow.

But it often goes off how recruits feel and Auburn had the #20 class in ‘21 and is currently #78 for ‘22. Not looking good.

First of all, that #20 class is going to be part of the program "4-5" years from now, right? Regardless of who recruited them, they will play a role in Harsin's success or failure.

Second, #78 it's pretty damn low regardless of the time of year. A lot can and does happen in recruiting, of course, but I'm just not feeling the buzz with Harsin and up until two months ago I lived within 30 minutes of Auburn's campus.

I don't see any SEC titles in his future, but only time will tell.

For this season, I expect 7-5 (ceiling is 8-4) and a bowl win.

Use that momentum to build something that challenges A&M and Alabama for a trip to Atlanta in year 3 or 4.

If that doesn't happen then you can expect lumber and iPhone prices to rise again after we buy-out another staff.

I think this should be the goal for Brian Harsin at Auburn for the next two seasons. He needs to change the culture at Auburn.

In all honesty, this is what I am most excited about. We've already seen some of it start.

Anytime a new coach comes in there will be some guys who leave for whatever reasons. Whether it's a higher discipline level or the scheme doesn't fit what those guys are used to. A lot of young talented guys left when Hardin came in board and in the moment it definitely hurts. But looking at the long term goals of the program, it is almost certainly the right move.

I'm just excited that he seems to be trying to change the overall feel of the program to a more professional, take care of business, do your job culture in the same vein that Saban runs his program. I grew extremely tired of Gus Malzahn's laid back, have fun, we'll see what happens next week approach. Plus, he went away from what he was so successful with and tried to change his entire philosophy for reasons that I think (because I don't know for certain) didn't benefit anyone. Especially the program as a whole.

Which, ironically, resulted in very boring and un-fun football most of the time.

Even if we go 7-5, if we're a reasonably entertaining offense to watch that will be very refreshing.

This is the largest positive change, IMO.

I got tired of hoping the D could pull some rabbit out of their hat because Malzahn couldn't move the ball. I got tired of seeing the offense look unstoppable one drive then not be able to get beyond our own 40 for the subsequent 6 drives. I got tired of hearing how the offense "will be different this season" and it being the exact same shite we've seen every week post-Nick Marshall.

I would truly be happy I think if he built the program to consistently get between 9-11 wins (including postseason). Obviously the SEC is a tough draw, but I feel optimistic that he can at least build the program above the 7-8 wins we've been averaging.

Of course, a championship season (SEC or CFP) every few years would be nice.

My last point would be that I want Harsin to find a way to win the postseason game, which Gus struggled with.

TBH we expect a tough, well prepared football team. We know its impossible to out recruit the Bamas and UGA's of the world, because 90% of teams dont recruit to that level, its unrealistic to expect us to.

Beat the teams we're supposed to, and be competitive in losses, is all we can ask for.

SEC Title by year 3 or 4
National title or Playoff Appearance by year 4 or 5 is pretty reasonable expectations if you ask me.

8 wins is a success this year.

Gus had been doing just that!

Last 4 coaches have gone undefeated, played for an MNC or won one. I expect the same.

exactly, you cant beat UGA and Bama in the same year then lay an egg to UCF. or Beat Bama in 2019 and then lose to Minnesota in a bowl.

Harsin didn't beat anyone high up and he did lose to San Jose State! Also, he did lose in a blowout loss to Washington in a bowl game that was Petersen last game. Petersen didn't bother to hire him or asked the current AD to interview him for the Washington HC job to replace Petersen.

How many times do you have to repeat this nonsense? I wasn't aware that Chris Petersen made the hires at Washington. How in the actual frick would you know he wasn't offered that job? And who cares if he wasn't? You, apparently.

No one interviewed for the Washington HC job after Petersen announced his retirement. Longtime WU assistant Jimmy Lake (who'd been with Petersen since his BSU days) was named the HC in the same press conference when Petersen stepped down.

you're really really bad at this.
