So the standard will be anything that got Shula and Dubose fired is the baseline and Curry and Fran's performances are acceptable. I am just curious what the fans will accept.

Curry won 7, 9, and 10 wins in his 3 years. That's not bad, considering each year got better.
Fran won 7 his first year following 3-8 season and 10 the second year. That's acceptable.

Well it's a little different when you're talking about a HC going into his 4th year at a school building something as opposed to Arkansas who has been "building something" since the last time y'all were relevant over 50 years ago before most southern schools allowed black players on their teams.

that's just the way the game is these days. schools should seriously reserve a shite load of money for coach buyouts. a school is very lucky if they are not in that game; even an old very long tenured guy still needs 4 years on his contract for recruiting purposes. sometimes these guys negotiate their "severance pay" down and accept some emeritus type position in the athletic department but sometimes (like Mack Brown) they fight to the end and want their damn money.
I sure don't like the state of college football today (money wise) but damn it, if you're gonna be a player you gotta spend like a player.
It's self destructive is what it is, like the NFL before the rookie pay scale. I don't know what reins it in that doesn't kill all of football though.

With the one-year extension, Auburn's cost to fire Gus Malzahn after the 2016 season goes from $6,712,500 to $8,950,000.

The new winning % is .500
A decent dip, but a far cry from where UA and FSU were.

So not just $2 mil, but $2.2 mil.
You can hire two Kevin Steeles for that much.

That extension makes Kevin Sumlin's contract look brilliant.
Has Sumlin played for a NC? Did he have A&M ranked in the top four of the Playoff Polls at any time ? Based on those two criteria, only Les, Nick and Gus have done that.

Any other fanbase can trot that out, but y'all didn't give Chiz any extra rope despite him WINNING a title.
It's obvious Auburn is less hungry. Bama won to the point of knocking you senseless, then knocking the sense back into you. Nothing wrong with admitting that.

And they got fired. What point are you trying to make? That Gus is a good coach for AU standards? Cause we may agree on that

Auburns conference winning % the year before Malzahn .000
That still doesn't really tell the whole story. Malzahn was left a good senior class that signed after the 2010 championship. Behind them Chizik left virtually nothing. Malzahn has had a tough rebuilding job in the toughest division in CFB. He's done a good job despite a bust at QB setting him back last year. Bowden and Bryant had it much easier. FSU was an indepent when Bowden took over and he was able to schedule cupcakes to fill up the W column to help recruiting (not to mention the state of Florida blowing up jn population at the time). When Bryant took over Bama in the 50's southern football was dog shite all around. He didn't have much competition. And rebuilding was easier because he was a master of bending the rules at the time to his advantage. It's a little harder when you can sign 100 kids a year and cut people later than today when you can only sign 25 a year

Again, AUs last two coaches have played for a NC. Only LSU and AU can make that claim. Having anyone besides LSU or Bama claiming their Coaches are better bargains, is just foolish.

When Gus loses every SEC game, several in a blowout fashion and then he has to hire private security to tuck the team in bed at night, then he will get the same scrutiny.
