yup. It really doesn't do much in terms of buyout, when Aubbie wants him gone they'll pay no matter the cost.

this.

Curry left on his own after 3 years. Dubose went 3-8 in his 4th year and was fired. Fran left on his own after 2 years. Shula was fired after going 6-6 in his 4th year. I don't see how any of that is helping you.

It's in his natural to deflect the situation and make it about Alabama. Don't worry, we're in for a good fairy tell in a minute.

Says every fanbase trying to justify their coach on the hot seat getting an extension.

What is the worse that can happen ? Paying a S4 Million buyout and hiring a fatass coach from the Big 10. The buyout would be acceptable, but..........

Monetarily, we are continue to set ourselves up for failure.

that's just the way the game is these days. schools should seriously reserve a shite load of money for coach buyouts. a school is very lucky if they are not in that game; even an old very long tenured guy still needs 4 years on his contract for recruiting purposes. sometimes these guys negotiate their "severance pay" down and accept some emeritus type position in the athletic department but sometimes (like Mack Brown) they fight to the end and want their damn money.

I sure don't like the state of college football today (money wise) but damn it, if you're gonna be a player you gotta spend like a player.

His previous deal was through Dec. 31, 2019 and had Malzahn earning $4.35 million in 2016, with an increase of $250,000 per year. In 2016 and 2017, Malzahn will earn a combined $500,000 more than he would have under his previous amended contract, but he will earn a combined $500,000 less in 2018 and 2019, making the only difference on paper the additional year in 2020.

How does Jay Jacobs continue to hold the AD job?

He has made some very good hires. You guys are reading the Auburn board too much.

IM Ok with Gus right now. He is the right guy. Just needs a few breaks.

No panic. Just move forward

1) Even the Auburn posters say that if he doesn't perform this year, he's gone even with the extension

What is your definition of "performing"? Most people seem to be predicting us at 8-5. He's not getting fired for meeting the accepted expectations with our schedule. .500 regular season will put him squarely on the hot seat, hanging on by a thread and coaching for his job in 2017. Under .500 with embarrassing blow out losses, not competing against our rivals, and the team quitting on him is the ONLY way he gets fired this year.

Most Auburn fans on here or otherwise, just like all fanbases, are idiots. They don't know shite. You probably don't either. Most people just spew what they read here or hear on finebaum. If you take what a fanbase of any sports team says as the truth like they know any more than you do ... well, just keep doing what you're doing and ignore me because there's no use in me trying to talk to you anyway

2) Auburn folks have forever said that Gus was the real head coach when Cheese dick was walking the sidelines...after y'all fired him

Nobody said that. People have Malzahn and his offense credit for the success Chizik had, but nobody said Malzahn was the guy. Chizik trying to be TOO controlling of a HC is what drove Malzahn away and got himself fired and most Auburn fans know that

3) Coach Bryant won everywhere he went...and QUICKLY (Maryland, Kentucky, A&M , AND Alabama)
4) Coach Bowden was successful quickly even with a substandard football program

-Bryant winning % first 3 years at Bama: .625
-Bowden winning % first 3 years at FSU: .676
-Malzahn after 3 years at AU: .675

Coaches like Bryant and Bowden would have never made it in today's coaching world because it took them years to build their programs.

What? In the 4 years prior to Bryant coming to UA, UA won a total of 8 games. In his first 3 years at UA, he won 5, 7, and 8 games. Then he won a NC in his 4th year, going 11-0. At what point would he have been fired?

Wow... even UT's athletic dept. was smart enough not to extend their coach whose ability to succeed long term remains to be seen.

And UT's athletic dept. isn't known for making smart decisions.

This could end up really fricking the War Eagles up.

Ironic thing about that meme is that you actually have to make it to a championship game for that to happen

I found it ironic (in the commonly used way) you stating earlier he needs time to build something. Seems like that way of thinking has been slapped back in our (hog) faces many o time.

So the standard will be anything that got Shula and Dubose fired is the baseline and Curry and Fran's performances are acceptable. I am just curious what the fans will accept.

He's doing the same thing LSU fans did when we found out we hired Steele. If you say the same crazy shite enough times, you actually start to believe it's possible.
