It wasn't a very lucrative contract back 22 yrs ago when it was executed. It was extended in 2018 and comes up for renewal again in 2025.
Bama certainly carried a lot more bargaining power in that 2018 extension and has leverage in the 2025 negotiations. The program is night and day different from 2002 to 2024.
None of this is accurate. The deal was extended in 2010 with a 2018 expiration date. In 2013 Battle, seeking to capitalize on Bama winning 3 NC's in 4 years negotiated a much longer term deal that would run through 2025. Nike was the only company he worked with, and it proved to be short-sighted, as schools like Texas, OSU, and UCLA leveraged multiple apparel offers just 3 years later to make 3-4 times as much annually.
The Battle deal was never announced publicly, and most people were shocked in 2018, when they expected Bama to sign the all-time highest apparel deal only to find out that we were under contract for seven more years.

Bill Battle basically just asked for the best deal Nike could give them and blindly accepted what they came back with with no pushback. He is a true genius businessman.

How much bammer Nike gear do you have, guy?
Feel good knowing that Nike is the official clothing line of trannies.
