Andy Burcham was the play by play guy

Very underrated. Fine announcer. I remember he did the Auburn football games on the old CSSE 98-01.

While everyone is being nice,Florida has an excellent color analyst,Nick Belmonte.

The Auburn color guy is knowledgeable, but a little too chatty at times. Could stand to dial it back just a bit, IMO.

You just miss Dave South, admit it

Dave South is a good man and I wish him all the best in his retirement.

However Dave was hired in a different time in the program. A&M has grown in expectations in education, athletics student body and announcers.

Looking forward to the new hire.

The pitcher seemed like a know it all. He would say stuff long the lines of “I was just thinking that” after something happened.

Overall they sounded clean, professional, and about as homerish as you’d expect.

No, since they didn't broadcast it.

It is a live ball so the runner could advance, but would likely be thrown out.

If that was the case, every time somebody tries to steal, people would square around and try to just tip the ball. Once the ball hits the bat, it's a dead ball.

For example.......two strikes and there is a hit and run. The batter swings and tips the ball. The catcher drops the ball. It is nothing but a foul tip and the runner must go back to the previous base.

The ball is a foul tip only if the catcher catches the ball without it touching any other surface.

In your example if the catcher drops the ball it is no longer a foul tip.

No, it would be a foul ball.

If the catcher would have caught the ball it would have been a foul ball and everyone returns to last base occupied.

Watch the umpire. If it is a foul tip, the home plate umpire makes a slapping, rubbing motion with his hands signaling to the runners and the umpires, it is a foul tip.

If it is a foul ball umpire will verbally call foul ball and raise both hands.

Perhaps this will explain it more clearly.

And yes, a foul tip is a live ball and a runner can advance.

Since when?

Since always. Do you even baseball?

To clarify, though, he's talking about a caught foul tip...which is a live ball that a runner can steal on, as opposed to a foul ball in the air that a catcher catches, in which case the runner has to return to the base.

Lots of alleged baseball fans in this thread who don't know the rules.

A runner most certainly can steal on a ball tipped directly into the mitt...and has always been able to. It is exactly the same as a swing and a miss.

Just like a runner can tag up a base on a caught foul ball.
