Close doesn't count. You will need a significant improvement in your QB and in your defense to be a player in the west next year.

The other issue is that all of the West teams have seen Gus's offense, it will either need to be much better executed or have quite a few more wrinkles put in.

It works both ways.... Malzahn in his second season could be very good, especially when you return 4 OL starters and all of your top pass catchers...

The question marks are just too much right now for me to think AU has a shot at ATL... 8 or 9 regular season wins would be nice.

My advice is to sit down at the kids table and let LSU and Bama battle it out for the west.

Arkansas has the potential to win the West next year if it can get a defense under it but I still think Petrino is a year away from it.

I need to take a look at their schedule but I really think they can make a serious run next year.

I see Auburn becoming a real contender for the west in 2 years. I'll give Chizik two years to bring in some players.

2011 will not be a good year for us unless this staff ends up being among the best coaches in all of college football.

We lose 4 offensive linemen starters next year. Most of our starting defense will end up leaving as they are seniors as well, linebackers, safeties, corners and so on. Also our schedule is much tougher in 2011.

2010 will be a solid year I expect 9-10 wins possbly more, I expect us to lose 2 due to the young depth and breaking in a new more aggressive QB. 2011 is a year that oculd get Chizik in trouble similar to 2001 with Tubs where we played in the SECCG in 2000 and then had the melt down due to injuries and a much tougher season.

Les needs to make some smart hires next year or LSU will take an even bigger step back next year. Arkansas had the best offense in the SEC and it wasn't close, it also had the worst defense in the SEC. If their defense was in the top half Ark would have beaten everyone in the West last year save for Bama going by the numbers. Petrino is building a strong program at Ark he just needs to stay on the recruitiing.

Ranger you maybe right. You know Auburn better than I do. If LSU can't win it, more power to you.

name the top program in the west next year.

Bama loses most of its key defensive players nearly 20 total are leaving even with talent that is a lot of experience. It is returning all the key players on its offense though.

LSU losing top RB, LT, linebackers, 2 DL guys, safety, a corner and so on. Again experience is lost don't care about talent behind. Offense was worse than 2008 in nearly every category.

Arkansas best offense in the SEC bar none, worst defense in the SEC bar none. Mallet returns offense stays hot but their season depends on the defense.

Auburn offense was solid but not earth shattering. Todd was a game manager and outside of the UT and OM game was not a clutch player and was horribly inconsistent. Defense ended the season being better than the 2007 defense in every statistical category and is adding massive talent and depth. The starters will be talented and we won't lean upon the new guys they'll be resting the seniors in key games, defense should be top 35 offense should improve due to more consistency.

Ole Miss losing several guys on defense still talented but I think Nutt blew his one big year here. He helped the passing game regress to the point it cost them a possible big season, Nutt will go back to being Nutt.

I already can't wait for next year. The West is wide open, a lot of teams can win it but only one will. I could honestly see a 3 way tie next year in the West with the game being settled by the Ark LSU and IB games next year maybe both games will be needed to decide the winner.

I think Mallett is gone, don't know if that puts us out or not.

Our defense stinks and we do not have a kicker we can rely on. I don't see us in Atlanta next year with those glaring holes.

The West goes through Bama and LSU.

It will be between BAMA and LSU for the West next year with Arkansas upsetting someone.

LSU doesn't have a bye week before the AU game this year and Todd had a massive down game against LSU. Had he hit the bubble screens like we did against UT LSU would have been blown out early on in that game as ole Les left the backfield empty to stop the run and put pressure on Todd. It pissed me off to no end to see him over throw the bubble screens if he threw to them at all.

I have a lot of respect for Auburns new program, but you do realize Auburn was blown out in tiger stadium? It would take a lot of ifs to change that.

Au will not be much better next year record wise.

They will lose to BAMA, LSU, UGA. They will lose at least 2 of these as well at OM, Ark, At UK, at MSU and USCe.

I got them at 7 & 5 again .

So how many times can we expect that prediction to change up before this time next year?

I'll put the o/u at 6.
