tough, b/c Auburn 2004 had a VERY soft schedule. 3 terrible, terrible OOC opponents. Only 4 road games. Didn't play Florida. VT was not a great bowl opponent for national title type team.

Florida drilled everybody after that Ole Miss loss, Auburn of 2004 would have had the same thing happen to them IMO.
You are out of your mind.your best team of the decade lost to us in 2006 the 2004 team would have destroyed UF and not even close.

was LSU-Auburn 2004 the fishy PAT call? those 2 teams were basically dead even, and it was at your place.
UF 2006 late in the season or LSU 2003 late in the season would beat AU 2004.

During the 2004 season (obviously I pull against Auburn) I remember getting a lot of hope any time a team ran the ball for a three yard gain. Meanwhile your D is having to tackle Ronnie and Caddy. Then factor in that the receiver play for Auburn was probably the best in its history.

but our 2004 defense held up just fine against them. We were much better in 2003 than 2004 and our 2004 squad should have taken AU to OT in Auburn. We lost 10-9 on a bizarre ending. Our 2003 squad, and UF 2006, punks that team.

It may be the team of the decade. The Williams-Brown-Campbell trio plus 4 future NFL wideouts plus an OL with 2 future 1st round picks. That offense was teamed with the #1 scoring defense in the nation that year.

I'd say our 2008 team was better than our 2006 team.

2002 Georgia, 2003 LSU, 2004 Auburn, and 2008 Florida

LSU 2003 team could make an argument but our offense that year was better than LSU's and the defense was very close. Statistically we were better defensively but much of that was due to the fact our offense could eat up massive amounts of clock time.
Also that UGA team that thumped LSU in 2004 Auburn didn't allow it to score until the 4th quarter.

Defense wins championships, Auburns defense was amazing that year. Jason Campbell was very efficient and we had the best run game of any team this decade as well.

Taking off my crimson glasses...I gotta say yes.

2004... oddly enough.. 2004 auburn team needed a phantom call to get a second try at an extra point to beat LSU..
I'd take a few teams from this decade over them..

This really isn't worth arguing...and it will keep going in circles. If they are voted as such, more power to them. Nobody cares, and really shouldn't considering Auburn hasn't done much since.

Yes, and it is not close. There are no other SEC contenders against AU 2004.
A case could be made for them as national team of the decade if not for the unreal talent the Canes had in 2000 or 2001.

Sure is a lot of jealousy in this thread.....
Anybody who thinks Auburn's schedule was soft in 2004 needs to take a look at the state of the SEC right now and reverse their opinion. This is the weakest the SEC has been since the '70s.....it was much tougher in 2004....
Honestly, the only SEC teams of the past 20 years who belong in this argument with '04 Auburn are '98 Tennessee and '92 Alabama....Everybody else got their arse kicked somewhere along the way.....
