Bring back McGinnis.

I looked up Ruffs stats and it's kinda better than I remember. 4/5 on field goals with a 50 harder. Still for some reason I remember being extra nervous about all of his kicks.

It's almost become one of those upset picks that's almost TOO obvious and that makes you think the favorite is going to end up winning.

I don't love Stoops's record against the West historically. 3-11 overall and 0-7 away from home. And of those three wins, two were against a couple of dysfunctional State teams and the other was against whatever you want to call the 2019 Arkansas Razorbacks.

I could see this being the kind of game where Auburn gets outplayed at home but still finds a way to win somehow. As a State fan the 2011 and 2013 games immediately come to mind as similar games. Would a Kentucky win be a shock? No. And I'm not even ready to say Auburn is going to be all that great. Just kinda need to see Kentucky do it before I buy all the way in.

I think Auburn wins something like 31-24.

I mean what are we talking about here, really?

Auburn should roll.

I get trashing Nix if you want to the find the numbers to do so, but the fact remains he was a true freshman who led the offense of damn good team last season. I say led the offense because Auburn's defense was the obvious catalyst of their team.

He'll improve. Auburn is likely to have a good to great defense again, despite losing some pieces.

Kentucky's offense was atrocious last season, and I know a WR was turned QB for most of the season. It speaks to surrounding pieces though. The offensive line may be great but I'm skeptical of their skill positions to score. I mean my God, Arkansas had them on the ropes in Lexington.

Auburn wins going away.

Not only a game with a wide receiver at QB, it was the first game with Bowden starting at QB. Not a good reference point.

Kentucky gave up less passing yards than every team in America not named Ohio State. Nix may play well but there’s nothing to indicate he’ll have a field day against this particular secondary.

Kentucky has one of the best o-lines in the country. Auburn brings a lot of talent but still lost three first rounders including two valuable linemen, one of whom was SEC Defensive Player of the Year.

Kentucky returns 16 starters to Auburn’s 9.

Auburn may level the Cats but with all these variables in the first game of the season I think it’s unlikely.

It's a fine reference point within its context. Arkansas is 1-23 over it's last three seasons in conference, and that win was by one point against Ole Miss. Vanderbilt on steroids. It matters a little bit but not a ton, surrounding pieces like I said.

I do think KY will have a good defense by season's end, but last season was far from reminiscint of 2018's defense. I think this gets overlooked.

Returning 16 starters on a team that went 8-0 is phenomenal, 3-5 not so much. I think this was MS State fan's trauma last preseason.

If Auburn loses to Kentucky I won’t talk shite about uga for a year. I’ll even defend them against 1980.

They only gave up 2.5 points more per game. Granted not a tiny number but still good enough for 14th in the country. Every starter in the secondary had to be replaced and the defense took some time to click giving up 23.6 ppg in the first 6 games but just 15.1 ppg in the last 7. With a host of guys coming back I see no reason not to expect similar results at a minimum.

If we’re being honest, it’s hard to evaluate the offense outside of expecting an effective rushing game. Wilson only played in a couple of games before the injury and his replacement Smith was injured in the third quarter against Florida in his first start. A game I contend UK would’ve won had he been healthy throughout but that’s neither here nor there. You then have him playing injured and then eventually the two most stubborn coaches on earth (not named Calipari) going with Bowden. Wilson is back with that running game but receivers are indeed a big question mark.

I feel like the home field advantage has been virtually negated by Covid and having this game out of the starting gate is a Kentucky advantage.

Regardless, I think it will be a highlight game of the week. These schedules sans cupcakes are so nice.

There sure is a lot of hype surrounding a basketball school and a mid-level SEC team that lost to Minnesota in its last game

I get that Auburn is a basketball school but we didn’t lose to Minnesota. We beat Virginia Tech. Get your facts straight.

I would say that you are admitting you’re a mid-level SEC team, however, a UK fan would probably take that as a compliment

The mistake most on this board make is how a previous year (s) can reference any semblance of accuracy as to what a new “team” will project to accomplish. Yes, you can make inferences but you cannot, with certainty, establish any sort of concrete projection/informed decision about how a team - will do.

Ergo, Auburn’s O line is mostly new so they will be terrible. Reality: who knows? Kentucky sucks because they always have! Answer who knows? In other words opinions are not facts. To assume so is ignorant and childish.

Btw, Kentucky will win!

I think AU wins because, well, I'm a homer, but this is just the kind of game we are prone to lose in the season. We are inexperienced on the LOS, Early kick time, underrated opponent with an experienced team, and traditional early season woes of Gus Malzahn. Not to mention home field is negated by the Covids.
