About 6 plays were the difference in 9 to 10 wins and a 7-6 season.

I like this attitude. If about 6 more of our plays had gone for TDs, we would have beaten LSU.

Next question. Is your D built to stop 4 quarters of a power rushing game or will it be a few more recruiting classes before this happens?

I don't know. We never saw one of those in the Big XII. We were great at stopping the run against spread teams

Trey Williams? He's ours. He and Texas never flirted. Texas signed Jonathan Gray. Trey talked to Arkansas, Oregon and Ok St but was all Aggie. It wasn't close.

We also have 2 other 5 star RBs on the roster although one will likely be sitting out this year because he transferred to A&M after one year at Oklahoma

The other guys are Christine Michael and Brandon Williams

6 plays from 9 wins?

Try 6 drives/game from 9 wins.

The 4th quarter of the Bowl game said it all. We went from a 30-7 lead to a 30-22 lead because of poor playcalling and no staying power.

what happened last season? about 3-4 seasons worth of "youhavegottobekidding".

bad execution? bad playcalling? bad luck? all of the above. I think the 3 biggest issues were: LB play especially in pass coverage. Tannehill going away from running the ball and trying to force throws. Losing both RBs down the stretch. We beat Texas with one of Gray or Michael.

as for qb1 next year...no clue. Showers has been unimpressive in any chance he has gotten. beautiful deep ball my arse. If it was me, I would hitch my wagon to Davis and take some lumps this coming year in hopes that it pays dividends down the road. The downside is that A&M really needs to show some fight in their first year in the SEC.

The season will come down to games in level of importance Florida, @State, @Auburn.

It's pretty much inexplicable and inexcusable to get so many big leads and then lose all those games in the same year.

We were decent at stopping the run last year. It was the pass defense that couldn't hold up when teams were trying to make furious comebacks after being down by 20 points.

I thought Showers looks pretty good from what I saw. I would think next year would be between Showers and Manziel. Both are athletic and mobile. Manziel has the 'winner' reputation from basically willing his HS to wins throughout the state HS playoffs. I think both can throw reasonably accurate passes. Joeckel is a pocket passer, so it depends on whether Sumlin wants a mobile QB or not. I hope Davis redshirts, but if he's the best choice then he'll probably see the field.

Sherman was unmistakable, by his own actions, not the guy to lead us into the SEC.

He thought he was on a 4-5 year glide-path to make is competitive in the Big 12.

He clearly could not summon the physical or emotional energy for the rigors of an SEC HC gig.

Sumlin may have not been my first choice but he has something left to prove and a chip on his shoulder.

Love the energy around the program now.

What the hell are you talking about?? He may end up being good and he may not, but how do you make that conclusion? He was 4/5 for 40 yds last season, and probably only played 15-20 snaps total.

Are you related to Davis or something? I don't see how you can come to any negative conclusion about Showers when all he was ever really allowed to do was hand the ball off in the last few minutes of blowout wins.

That was one of my bigger gripes about Sherman. The dude hardly ever put in backup skill position players to get reps.

You'd pick a true freshman (Davis) with no springs under his belt over a redshirt freshman (Manziel) in his 2nd spring with a regular season under his belt?

He did, however, burn the following redshirts for minimal plays for almost no reason:

-Nate Askew (WR - 2009)
-Ivan Robinson (DL - 2010)
-Will Randolph (RB - 2011)
-Deshazor Everett (DB - 2011)

I think Johnny Football has the edge right now.

Showers only threw the ball 5 times so he doesn't have any edge over the others there.

And Matt Davis is already in CS so he'll be here for Spring practice.

Sumlin has said he isn't going to name a starter until 2-a-days unless one of them stands out as the clear leader.

In the end, I think it'll come down to Matt Davis and Johnny.

These two are easily the most athletic and mobile and I think that'll be what puts them in front of the other two.

Plus, back at last years Maroon & White game, I was really impressed by Manziel. He is the one who stood out from everyone else to me. And Showers didn't look all that great then either to me. Or just not as impressive.

So, Matt Davis or Johnny Football for me.

Definitely not what you would expect from a Cotton Bowl team returning 18 starters huh? Here is what I know-

Our Oline is quite good. We were blowing teams up last year and ran the ball off tackle and on the pitch quite well but I share the opinion of many Ags that we did not do enough running. We have the personel to run effectively in the SEC it would seem and I anticipate 50/50 or close, similar to what he ran at OU. Also, he seems to be more a fan of speedy receivers than big posession receivers like Sherman. He will press hard and look for mismatches as stated above. CMike should be at 100% and reports say he is on swole and if Brandon Williams gets his hardship we could have a more than adequate backfield.

Showers is the only QB on the roster with any downs and many give him the early nod to start next year. There will be competition for every position though and there is this one kid named Johnny Manziel that has become the hometown favorite due to his total domination of the HS field. He is a dual threat that had verbaled to UO before flipping to us. He redshirted last year and I believe he will start for us eventually. Trey Williams is tough and elusive but will most likely feild kicks IMO until we get a little weight on him. Thats our offense, and as far as d goes well VM is choppin dicks in the NFL and Hodges is looking for a job.

4-5 for 40 yards against gassed defenses or 3rd stringers doesnt strike me as impressive. Showers is just a guy...plenty like him littering college football sidelines holding headsets or calling in signals to better playmakers.

Its going to be a clean slate for all these QBs with the new system. Whoever picks up the offense is gonna be the opener starter. Thats not to say said QB will be the starter halfway through the season.

Agreed but we haven't seen him. Weren't two of those sneaks? Can't really go by the numbers but I say Manziel wins the spot in the spring.

I saw several games last year. Flat out it was conditioning.

Just wore down second half. aTm not deep enough like bama, lsu etc. Give them 2-3 years and they will be very competitive.

Oldtimer-
Did you see the way we ran packages on D? Constant subs had our guys gulping for air. This is the part I still don't understand. All in the name of the "exotic" blitz.........

Johnny football is definitely the fan favorite due to his status as a Texas HS legend. I also think he has some of the leadership and killer instinct intangibles that past QBs have lacked. It's going to be an interesting battle though and is wide open among 4 people. Matt Davis is really raw, so I'd be surprised if he won it.
