frick no I didn't.
It was a "Be of good cheer" Mike McKenzie offering, and he and I were not BFF.
It was so short-lived, I wonder if more than 200 ppl ever read it.
Didn't matter.
It was the excuse we needed to run like hell from a very toxic situation.
He's just up the road from College Station now--in San Marcos--and the two parties wouldn't piss on the other if he/they was/were on fire.
Awkward.

So Stallings is a more respected Aggie?
To be perfectly honest, Stallings kind of sucked as a head coach at A&M.
Yes he beat the Bear in that one Cotton Bowl but that was also the only year in the seven he coached that he had a winning record.
Even in that Cotton year they only went 7-4 overall.
Of course, Bear holding him up after A&M upset Bama is one of the most iconic pictures/moments associated with the Cotton Bowl.

I guess Alabama brings out the best in coaches.

Certainly in the ones our universities have in common.

I thought I might get a more comprehensive answer than "They like to sip tea.", which I did.

College football is a rigged game. Closest sport to India's caste system.

No.

Probably closer to American society, where families are always rising and falling.

I think there was an awful lot of headwind against Stallings in those days. While compulsory military service had recently been dropped, A&M's image was still that of a military college and Stallings tenure was during an incredibly unpopular war. That's not even getting into the no scholarship limits thing.
