Why do you think that USM can't fill up their 38,000 seat stadium when the HB area is at least over 130,000 in population? Because hardly anyone in HB gives a shite about USM football that's why
This is so true.
i remember several or more years back I was watching USM on ESPN in a huge game- and the top corners of the stadium had plenty of people dressed as seats. I couldn't understand why. Tiny stadium. Makes Vaught Hemmingway look like Michigan.

People on the coast are a lot closer to LSU. Of course there's gonna be more LSU fans. They're over five hours from State or Ole Miss. Just like there's a good many State fans in NW Alabama. I live an hour north of the LA line. There is an even mix of LSU, Ole Miss, and State fans here. I am 1:45 from Baton Rouge and 3 hours from State or Ole Miss. The more North you go the more that changes to State and Ole Miss. The LSU fans around here are sidewalk fans and never step foot on campus, whereas most of the State/Ole Miss fans have ties to those universities. You see a lot of trucks around here with LSU on the back glass and probably 80% of those people moved here after Katrina or work on an oil rig and didn't go to college. I wouldn't look at it as being in MS and being an LSU fan. I would look at it by proximity to campus. If you live close to campus and didn't go to college, it's pretty easy to side with the more successful program. Yall have BCS NC's and CWS and a final four in recent years. Who cares about those fans. It's not like they're gonna drive three hours to go to a game in North MS.

Northeast Jackson is strong Ole Miss. Madison and Ranking counties are (surprisingly) stronger State areas.

We lived in Vidalia and my dad worked at the mill in Natchez back in the 60's & 70's.
Seems like a lot of the Pilgrimage/Society people were Ole Miss fans.
That was the biggest thing going in Natchez back then so I probably saw a lot of pictures in the Natchez Democrat and got the idea there were more Ole Miss fans than State fans.
Also had one uncle who was an Ole Miss grad so I met a lot of his friends there.
During the 2005 season (Katrina) we had to stay in Natchez and McComb before and after LSU games as we couldn't get hotel rooms any closer.
Saw more State flags and stickers in McComb than in Natchez.

I've seen a good bit of people from the Waynesboro area that are Auburn fans. But I think most of the state is 50/50 except on the coast and SW mississippi(LSU). Close to Memphis is more Ole miss. Columbus area more State but there are alot of Bama fans in Columbus too.

The only "true" LSU fans in a given area are around south MS (mccomb, magnolia area). These are die hard LSU areas that buy season tickets and support LSU. Now theyre LSU fans spread out all over MS, but thats because MS is a redneck state full of bandwagon fans, no flame LSU.
The meridian area does have a lot of Bama fans, but not near as many true supporters as State has in that area. State also is more popular in the Jackson suburbs. Rankin and Madison county is predominantly State. While OM owns the memphis suburbs. States biggest alumni base is in jackson, while OM's are in Memphis and Dallas.

Ditto. Like I said, I am an hour north of LA and I know 3 LSU alumni in my town. I know hundreds of State/Ole Miss alumni here. I have a customer that is an LSU fan and never went to school. I see him once a month. I have never seen him without an LSU T-shirt and hat on.
601dog is not from Copiah county.

wheres he from? and the whole copiah county is all OM is nonsense. My dad is from that area and the year I graduated half the academy went to State, which is a lot considering most go to colin. I think only 4 went to OM.

I'll let him tell you if he wants to.

After their renovation, Southern Miss' stadium actually looks really good. Think it's up to 50,000 now. Doesn't look bad at all.

no its still less than 40k
Posted on 7/8/10 at 12:51 pm to Whereisomaha
yeah there's no way it's 50,000. The stands along the sides and upper deck are a lot smaller than they look in pictures. I wish all stadiums could be that close to the field all the way around.

Nope but have a lot of family that live in that area.

Im originally from Lincoln county. I just have known a lot of people from Wesson and Hazlehurst who have gone to Ole Miss and are Ole Miss Alums. No doubt there are a lot of State fans/alumni in Cophiah county as well, but not many LSU fans there as compared to Lincoln and Pike counties.
TDs and Beer hit the nail on the head about LSU fans in Brookhaven. I dont think I know but a couple of o people from Brookhaven/Lincoln county who even went to LSU and I grew up in Lincoln county. FWIW Lincoln County and Brookhaven has a lot of USM alums there as well.

Grandparents(mom's side) were from McComb. Die hard Tiger fans.
I'm the only one in my family that is not a Tiger. I mean from aunts and uncles and cousins.

Natchez has a strong LSU fanbase. The area has always consisted primarily of LSU fans, with USM, MSU, and Ole Miss fans sprinkled throughout. The rich people in town are mostly LSU or Ole Miss fans while everyone else is either LSU or MSU/USM. Some people from Natchez end up going to USM, but only because they couldn't get in to any of the other 3 schools, or because they lack any ambitions in their lives.
