Bear Bryant had already earned a reputation as an outlaw school that
not only played dirty, but reveled in their reputation as a dirty
football team. Bryant, fairly or not, was perceived as a man who would
do anything to win a football game. The Graning incident only served
to confirm what many outside of Alabama already believed: Bryant was a
dirty coach and his team employed dirty tactics.
Furman Bisher wrote a lengthy article for The Saturday Evening Post
entitled "College Football is going berserk" in which he claimed that
Bryant coached his team to deliberately try and knock opposing players
senseless using dirty and illegal tactics. Bisher had attended several
Alabama practices and noted what he felt was an attempt to teach
improper technique including the throwing of forearms which had
resulted in Graning's injury.

How bout them Tigers.. up to 51% disparity in graduating the brothers from the whites... 100% for the white boy though. 49% for the black athletes. Who'd a thunk Auburn could have increased the disparity in one year by 5%.

Bryant fixing games and links to gamblers and the mafia!
Yet, there is ample evidence to suggest that Burnett's story was true.
Butts phone records for the day Burnett claimed to have overheard the
two coaches talking included two long distance calls that corresponded
to the exact time Burnett claims Butts was in his office speaking with
Bryant. The first was to Frank Scoby, a well-known Chicago gambler who
admitted to betting on college football games and described himself as
a "compulsive gambler." Immediately after speaking with Scoby, Butts
called Bear Bryant and spoke with him for over an hour.
James Kirby, in his book Fumble, suggests that the lawyers for The
Saturday Evening Post badly bungled their case. Further, he suggests
that many of Bryant's witnesses, which ominously included a young
Charlie Pell, may have falsified their testimony in order to help
Bryant cover up his misdeeds.
Kirby believes that Butts was guilty of trying to fix the game and
that Bryant willingly accepted confidential reports on Georgia's
practices and strategy. Whether Bryant acted on these reports and
whether they made a difference in the game, no one can know. But when
all of the evidence was weighed, including an incredible and
unprecedented number of calls between Bryant and Butts in the weeks
before the Alabama- Georgia game, it is hard not to believe that
Bryant did, in fact, cheat.

I read somewhere on an obscure blog from a hair stylist in New York named Cheri's Ramblings that Joe Namath provided girls to possible recruits at no charge during the 70's and early 80's.
It was then that Capstone BoT was also involved on the leftover carnage left in the football dorms. They also allowed recruits to go to a boosters Ice Cream Parlor and once at the bottom of the cone they would find 10,000.00 from the REC....Don't know if its true TIFWIW.

"NOW THIS IS JUST RUMOUR, I CAN NOT PROVE ANY OF IT.........
Rumors are everywhere concerning the NCAA and Gadsden City High School. They started last year with Jerrell Harris and have continued until today. I have seen pieces and parts of the rumors discussed every day on this forum, but I am going to try to recap what is being heard here.
1. NCAA has either already met with or has requested to meet with a coach at Gadsden City High School. His initials are (OS).
2. Three REC members in Gadsden have been accused of paying or providing cars (Dodge Chargers) to players in exchange for them committing to Alabama. One person is a Gadsden lawyer (RM), one is a Gadsden surgeon
(BD) and the third is a Gadsden business man (DC). At least one of these men is said to REALLY be worried about this being made public.
3. There are tapes of at least one car being given to a kid. Research shows that one of the cars was bought and sold four times in a short period of time before is was given to the kid.
4. A private investigator was hired after Harris committed to Alabama last year. This investigator is who is turning the info over to the NCAA.
5. Two of the cars given have been taken away from the kids.
6. The three men mentioned above are accused of funneling the money through the coach mentioned above. This coach also has a new Ford truck.
7. The offensive lineman that switched his commitment to Ole Miss after Fluker committed to Bama is said to have receive $20,000 from these men and then they tried to get it back after he switched his commitment"
Funny you mention all this as the rumor is that these so called "boosters" were actually Auburn boosters trying to ensnare Bama recruits. Heck, there is already actual documented proof that an AUBURN BOOSTER tried to compromise Julio Jones and Mark Ingram's eligibility before the 2009 season. No level of devious, evil extortion is above the Aubies and their little brother obsession.
