If I was A&M, yes. I would suspend him and petition the NCAA for a ruling on his eligibility. They either have something or they don't. They either reinstate him or if they don't and then you know they have something. It protects the school going forward to the extent that the school can be protected.

And how exactly would that conversation go between the coaches/AD and Manziel?

"Sorry you can't play son, but all this hearsay from ESPN reporters with sketchy reputations is just too much for us to ignore."

You are essentially saying that A&M willingly suspend the Heisman Trophy winner because someone is reporting what OTHERS are privately accusing him of. There is no so much as even a single official written accusation. merely word of mouth allegations handed down by other parties.

Suspending someone for that and nothing else is madness.

i think at this point compliance with TAMU has already asked JFF unless they don't want to know the answer. And if they have not asked the question up to now then I think that would fall under the lack of institutional control button.

A&M's compliance dep't already publicly answered the question in... March, I think?

Suspend him for what exactly? Being accused of signing autographs for money. So all an A&M fan has to do to get a Bama/LSU player suspended is accuse him? No evidence required right?

Sorry! Serious questions only.

So the compliance department in March knew about the allegations of payments that came out in the last week? Awesome.

and then if this is the case Sumlin lied because he said he only knew about this when it all hit the fan last week.

I could keep going with the hypotheticals but y’all see where I’m going with this, right?

Yeah, I see where you're going. Straight to Hell

The only power the NCAA has is in the member schools granting that power. Unless you can somehow get 119 other schools to go along, this would end up in A&M being unable to play anybody but FCS teams. Actually I'm not sure if they could do that, either.

Clay Travis (I know many hear hate him) had an interesting idea on this: what if every player on every FBS team on opening day offered his autograph for money? Yeah it will never happen, but what if it did?

for what it is worth..Vegas has taken most if not all of the TAMU lines off the betting boards. They seem to be good at insider type stuff that could affect the score or the outcome of a game like player injuries, suspensions etc that have not been made public yet.

Every so often, some loon comes forward and says that if nobody pays income taxes they can't put us all in jail.

So, pretty much as that.

How quick is the ruling once A&M kicks it up to the NCAA?

Cam was cleared almost immediately. I suspect the NCAA would uphold the suspension on Manziel. I doubt they have found the body but I suspect they have the smoking gun by now. There is just too much out there. But, the school would be protected. That's more important at this point.

The NCAA has as much inherent value as printed currency. The only power they have is what the collective majority says they do.

Yeah it's a crazy idea, but it's not the same as everyone not paying taxes. The US government has an enforcement arm that the NCAA doesn't have. If tomorrow every program said "frick the NCAA" it would cease to exist.

Ask Auburn. It worked out for them quite nicely.

it would cease but their would be martial law so to speak until a replacement body could be formed for rules and regulations etc.
