Or he could play all season, do well, and the NCAA does shite because they are a disorganized and ineffective organization that has bigger problems to worry about.

Most Aggies realize that. We're starved for football relevance as a program.

Here is how A&M and Sumlin should/better handle this case.

While I have no idea if it's true for all athletic departments, at A&M, coaches are not part of the process with regards to NCAA violations. Coaches handle their sport. If a player violates team rules, the coach handles it internally.

But if a player breaks an NCAA rule, the investigation and punishment are handled by the compliance department. These guys do not report to the coaches and mostly are considered the enemy. There is a reason Paul Manziel was pissed with them. And just like when outside auditors suggest to IA that there is a problem within a group, they don't go to the manager of that group to suggest punishment. It's a normal controls process.

I'm sure Sumlin is being made aware of findings or lack of findings, but he's not really part of the process here.

TAMU will , WILL, WILL get hammered by the NCAA, which is why the 1st alternative I set forth above is the way to go.

As long as A&M follows the process outlined by the NCAA, they will suffer no repercussions whatsoever.

Ohio St got nothing in the Pryor case til the coverup came out and the broker was an OSU booster ffs. Okie St got no penalties in the Dez Bryant case. In both of those cases, the investigation was ongoing while they played games. The NCAA does not hold it's member institutions to a clairvoyant standard. There is either concrete evidence of wrong-doing and he gets suspended or there is not and he plays. All the bellyaching and faux advice isn't going to change that.

But but but

aggy has to be put in their place for daring to step out of the shadow and having a good season in football tmc94!!!!!!!

So what if programs like Oregon, Auburn and Miami are held to lax standards? God himself is a t-shirt horn fan and will ensure this one time the NCAA folks do their jobs!!

I love it. Living in Austin, sips all day want to speculate with me how screwed the program is, how it will run Sumlin off, how they will take the Heisman away, etc.

And I just say "Nothing will happen now that we are in the SEC."

Drives them insane!!!

As far as I am concerned, we are still in the any press is good press phase.

NCAA Investigation Process

quote:

During the daylong exercise, NCAA enforcement staffers guided reporters through the steps of an investigation process that typically spans 10 to 11 months. The process was familiar to many, if not all, of the scribes in attendance. It shared similarities — establishing the credibility of the information and of the information’s source, strategically planning out interview sequences, etc. — to the ones they employ when conducting investigations in their own line of work.

quote:

But there were a few striking differences. For example, NCAA investigators cannot use information from a confidential or anonymous source to support an allegation or to prove a violation occurred. Such information can only be used as the ignition point of an investigation.

Wait the NCAA cannot use confidential/anonymous sources to prove allegations?

How is that even possible?

And speaking of the shag, where's Randolph Duke? Surprised he hasn't invaded this board/thread yet.

I think that it was the former head of the NCAA's enforcement dept, on ESPN this morning, who said it was his opinion that this would not be Sumlin's decision. Anything like a suspension would more than likely come down from the university's president. And that is who the NCAA's wll be talking to, not a HC. And, most certainly, the Manzeil's,with all their experiences with litigation, will never file suit against anyone. Can you imagine JM having to sit down & answer under oath all the questions he would get in depositions? And he would be asked bout the role of Uncle Nate, who would promptly receive a depo subpoena as well. Not happening.
