Arkansas v. UGA Analysis

The Hogs have quickly become my 2nd favorite team with their outstanding trolling here. Big fan of their rise from the ashes. I had them beating A&M 20-17 (check my post history) so I was off a tad. Would Preciate an opinion on this game’s analysis as well.
Odom will bring a similar defensive approach Clemson brought against UGA - playing a lot of deep zone concepts and keeping UGA’s speed at receiver from going over the top. Forcing UGA to make 6-7 intermediate yard plays on drives instead of big chunk plays they’ve been hitting in their last 3 games. UGA’s short yardage run game is very underwhelming and probably their biggest weakness overall and that’s going to be a huge factor in the game. Arkansas can sell out on the deep pass and force UGA to nickel and dime all day. It will produce some points but not a lot.
Hog’s have good LBs that play very well in the run game inside the box - however - UGA’s TEs are going to give them fits in the passing game if they are properly utilized. Their LBs cannot match up against Bowers speed or Washington’s (heard he’s playing) size. If I’m Arkansas I have Catalon shadow Bowers 50% of the time bc dude is averaging 8 targets a game and is their leading receiver.
KJ will have to take shots downfield. Scar had some big plays on UGA’s secondary on 50/50 balls and their inexperienced corners are easily UGA’s biggest weakness on defense. Arguably UGA’s only known weakness on D tbh. Arkansas is not going to have the same success running the ball against UGA that they did against A&M and Texas. They’re going to have to get creative with screens and perimeter run plays bc if UGA completely shuts down a threat of the run it’s going to be a long arse day dealing with that pass rush. UGA is my main rival and I’ve studied them for years and I’ve never seen them have a front 7 this talented. The Hogs do NOT want KJ saying hut and dropping back to pass regularly.
UGA’s depth on defense is the deciding factor in this. The Hogs wore down Texas, however, A&M actually made a decent comeback despite being complete dog shite bc the hogs run game slowed down significantly in the second half due to A&M’s depth on defense. Similar in this game. Hogs punch UGA in the mouth with some great play calling early and then get wore down as the game goes on. Arkansas covers. UGA wins 24-16

This is an excellent breakdown. This board has broken my brain and was not expecting serious analysis when I clicked this thread. I don’t really have much pushback on your perspective here. I think the matchup with our tight ends might be the difference in the game on that side of the ball.
Georgia is going to try and make Arkansas one dimensional and take away the run, which may open up chunk plays through the air. I think we’re fine with that so long as they don’t turn in to long touchdowns. This defense defends a short field very well and bend but don’t break through the air wouldn’t be a bad approach.

Sound analysis from our perspective. Only Arky fans can say how it matches what they are thinking. I personally think they have a very solid team and could get an upset. I don't think that will happen, but if they were expected they wouldn't be called upsets.

Agreed on almost everything. I did have one comment though..
The Arkansas Running Game didn’t have success in the 2nd half, but it isn’t necessarily from the Aggie depth. They lost KJ and Elko knew Hornsby wasn’t going to throw the ball, so they were able to load up on the run.
That’s my opinion at least.. perhaps it’s a combination of both, but Arkansas has been a stronger 2nd half team this year,. they rolled in the first half with long plays.. had very little TOP.. they shouldn’t have been worn out at all.
Either way, great analysis.
2nd Half Playcalling
Hornsby 1-3 for 7 Yards.
Jefferson 1-3 for 10 Yards.
36 Running Plays
Reality: Hogs had the game in the bag and didn’t want to show anything else for Georgia..

The only thing stopping me from calling the upset is they played UGA close for a half last year and that combined with the Hogs playing very well will have UGA’s full attention. The noon kickoff wants me to take the hogs in an upset but UGA just has more talent overall.

The run game slowed down because KJ got hurt and they sold out on defending the run trying to make us pass with the backup in. A&M's depth had nothing to do with it.

The noon kickoff definitely plays to the Hogs favor, but I think GameDay deciding to come to Athens will nullify the impact of the early kick. Especially with them moving the final hour of the show to being hosted at the plaza underneath the West Endzone Scoreboard. Hopefully all the fans will move from Myers Quad to the West Endzone, and then into their seats right before the picks.
Hoping all of our fans are able to get into their seats and loud before kickoff. We do not need to let a sleepy start happen and let Arkansas begin to feel itself out in the game.
Great analysis in your OP though

For the time being we do. But Pittman is an excellent recruiter and excels at the LOS. Right where he needs to be. I am honestly happy to see him do well. he waited patiently for his opportunity and I hope he hits it out of the park....right after they play us.

BigDgator is a good poster, too. Both try to be fair...and let's be honest. When you are posting about a big rival it isn't easy to do for anybody.

Definitely a factor but I see terms like “sold out on run” thrown around all the time. A&M was inclined to put emphasis on that and called plays keyed around stopping the run due to the hogs having a backup QB in. There was no “selling out” in bringing up the safeties into the box. A&M consistently had their safeties 12 yards off the line until the last 7 minutes of the game. Arkansas runs a spread power run game that is very dangerous to bring your safeties up even with a backup QB. (They did cover 0 earlier and Burks burned them for that TD and they were scared to bring their safeties up again after that).
The hogs run game had some decent runs in the 2nd half but it slowed down. Backup QB definitely a factor but so was depth on D. I’m also telling you right now that A&M’s front 7 is not comparable to UGA’s. I’d love to be wrong and watch y’all run all over UGA - I would be the happiest guy on earth lol - but UGA has a very very good front 7. Again, I’d love to be proven wrong about it.

Good news for UGA. Darnell Washington and Tyler Smith are expected back from injuries this Saturday.

I hope Tykee Smith is able to make a huge impact with the secondary this weekend and moving forward.
They're our D's only glaring weakness right now and we could really use his AA talents to bring that group up to warp speed with the Front 7

Hopefully that won't be that big of an advantage due to our zone and bracket coverages.
We did pretty good against Aggies TE last weekend.

The only thing I disagree with is 2nd half against aTm. The majority of the time Jefferson was not in the game which made the D look better than it actually was. When he did get back in it was to milk clock and hold on to the ball…we also had the mercy knee

UGA rushing game will force Hogs to bring everyone and play 5 or 6 in the box. UGA will still be able to rush for 200+ yards. Zone defense will be rendered ineffective and UGA receivers will be open but unlike other teams they have faced this year they will have a very good and competent QB hitting guys in stride.
UGA has 450-480 yards of offense and wins going away. Looking for 25 point win.
