I don't think Bobby tries to do anything but Bobby's thing when it comes to recruiting. He seems to know what he wants and goes after it, though like anyone else, not always successful. I have been OK with his recruiting. I know he dove right into it the day after he was hired at Arkansas. This past year was lean but I think it will be much improved this next year.

^THIS - He's gonna do his own thing. And, as a fan I don't think you would want to have it any other way.

He's a good coach and has made improvements over the past 2 yrs and he's filled the needs of the team.

To OP:

Screw the star ratings. If your coaches have found players that they believe will excel and fit your needs then that's what matters.

Up to a point yes. But clearly the teams who have been at the top of the SEC and/or winning NCs lately have also had some pretty sick recruiting rankings

Probably the team with the worst ranked recruiting classes to win a NC lately was OSU in 02... and they are solid if not top 5-10 in the recruiting wars every year

No doubt, but worrying over whether a guy is 2, 3, or 4 star really doesn't help anything. It's all educated guessing to begin with and just as many high star guys tank as turn out to be all americans. The only real separation is usually with 5 star rankings. Those guys are projected to be next level ready immediately. Even then there's no guarantees. Stupid Ryan Perrilloux

And Keiland Williams, even though he will get a spot somewhere. There are lots of 5 stars every year that don't amount to shite

he has the all time Arkansas high school rushing record

Which means what? Vernon Hicks apparently had the record for a while as well. How did that help him at the next level? High School success does not necessarily translate into success at the college level.

I think he'll be alright. But I see where ya'll are coming from with being loaded at RB so not really caring. We are too so I wouldn't have minded too much if yall got Dyer but our offense requires multiple RBs to get carries so he will most likely still see the field this year and contribute while he probably wouldn't have at Arky so I guess it is different.. but I still see what yall are saying

Best post from a Tiger on Dyer I've seen. Would Hog Fans like to have seen us get Dyer? Sure. But as I've said before and I think this season will prove it to be true, even if we had gotten Dyer whose carries would he take from the Hog running backs? The only player he resembles in build and ability is Dennis Johnson (Jr) and many predict DJ will start and get the majority of the carries this year. He certainly wasn’t going to get any of the carries of the 230 LB Ronnie Wingo (So), the 220 LB Knile Davis (So) or the 250 LB Brodrick Green (Jr) because they are different type backs.

I have never said Dyer will be a bust but I just don’t think one can go by his high school stats to make bold predictions about his future because 1) He was playing in a small Arkansas Class where he routinely was going up against 180 lineman and small and slow LBs & DBs and 2) He was already a mature 19 years old in High School. In fact he is the same age as Ronnie Wingo and a full year older than Knile Davis. How well do you think those two could do playing against the same competition last year and the 220 LB Davis would still have another year to go playing in Arkansas’ 5 A Class. Certainly puts a different light on Dyer’s accomplishments, doesn’t it?

LOL. Are they touting some high school player from last year? Sometimes it does work out.

Yes, Favre's nephew. Set some records in 4A ball in MS. He is a little short though. State gave him a look and he jumped

Petrino has already offered something like 10 instate guys for the 2011 class

some of these kids may not have a lot of stars but if they can play well who cares?

he's offered some good 2011 La. kids too:

Bingo!

Pretty much the story of Arkansas HS football. 3 or 4 good schools at the top of their classification, then the rest are fair to a joke. Where else can a school with a record of 2-8 make the playoffs.
