Arkansas' lucky 4th and 25 vs Ole Miss doesn't happen-is the SEC in the playoffs

If Ole Miss wins the game then they rather than Alabama would have gone to the SEC Championship Game. Both would have been 7-1 in the SEC but Ole Miss has the head to head win. Would the playoff committee have been willing to let an Alabama team that didn't win its own division be in the playoffs? They certainly could not have let an Ole MIss team that lost to Memphis in the playoffs. So would the unthinkable have happened and the SEC is the conference left out of the playoffs? I can't imagine the anger on this board if that occurred.

I'm not sure if the lateral is really even allowed under the 4th down fumble rule.It was absurdly lucky in any case.

An intentional lateral and a fumble are two entirely different things.

Didn't read the rest.

If 4th and 25 doesn't happen Ole Miss still has a WAOM moment left against either LSU or State. They still wouldn not have made it to Atlanta and nothing changes in the grand scheme of things

Anyone with a brain knows there will be a year when the SEC isn't represented in the playoffs.

It's just a matter of when. Could be next year or in 10 years.

IDK. Ole Miss seemed like they were bound to screw up again. My money would have been on Miss St. Even if they did win, a 2 loss Ole Miss SEC champ is not as appealing as a 2 loss Stanford Pac 12 champ.

ETA:

Actually, I think a 1 loss Bama gets in before either of those teams.

because he is an Ole Miss alter. the only people who confused a lateral with a forward fumble are Ole Miss fans who blew up social media after that loss.

it took an act of God to convince them it was a legal play. apparently this Ole miss fan never got the memo.

Bama still wins it all. SOS and being Bama puts them in the playoffs easily.

LSU's still mad about 38-17 I see. And I'm not sure any amount of WAOMing would've kept us from sending Dak out of Davis-Wade with an L. We played some shite games (Florida, Memphis), some flukey games (Bama, 4-25), and some great games. The Magnolia and Egg Bowls were no-doubters, and whether or not Atlanta was on the line wouldn't have changed that.

Not a single season of college football passes without the outcome of games affecting other teams. That's why football isn't just a bunch of teams sitting in a dive bar on Beale Street talking about games they would play if they weren't so drunk and ending the evening by voting on which 0-0 team should get the national title. They play the games because they're whittling down the field until the teams with the right balance of the fewest mistakes and best resume play for the title.

(Hell, if Jimbo and FSU don't protect a rapist, FSU doesn't win the NC. It's just chaos theory in action.)

You've posted 9 fricking threads in like 4 hours.

We somehow need to institute a 2 thread per day maximum limit or something like that

Lucky was Ole Miss staying alive in regulation. There shouldn't have even been an overtime. Any coach who is dumb enough to go for it on fourth down at midfield against a team that had an offense like Arkansas, deserved to lose in regulation.

Period.

Stanford would have gotten in, not Ole Miss.

Their two losses would have been an absolute blowout loss against Florida and a double digit loss to Memphis (who tanked at the end of the year anyway).

Their two losses would have been way, way worse than Stanford's
