This site is hilarious. I have watched the Arky fans go from believing their head coach was going to be John Gruden, then WORSE CASE SCENARIO Butch Davis, then Paul Petrino, then the first rumor earlier today it was John L. Smith.

Every Arky fan was furious and talking suicide if true. Then it's confirmed, and within 30 minutes, they are all convinced it was a brilliant move.

I love this place.

Yeah, well all thought we were getting Gruden.

Its a complex situation. You either get a homerun hire (which is hard to do in April) or you get a guy who will allow the pieces in place to stay and run the same system.

You can't hire both at the same time.

So........ How much are you putting down on Arkansas winning it? I seriously doubt much, if any.

Any shot Arkansas had, and even then it wasnt much, went into the ditch on that bike.

I wanted Paul Petrino as well, but he's already OC and QB coach, and needs to have his head solely on that aspect of the team if we want to have a great 2012.

Also, the other assistants who were up for the HC job (Taver, Haynes, Horton) will be able to accept this decision and respect the HC better than they would be able to if Paul Petrino had been promoted, IMO. Smith is an experienced head coached who has been around the block a few times, and although he will let his assistants do most of the work, they should be able to respect his final say on matters more than if one of their fellow colleagues had been promoted.

i hate admitting i'm wrong but i think you hogglies have convinced me that i was wrong initially. i thought it was retarded but i didn't realize he worked there and how much experience he had with the staff and petrino. if he actually is mostly hands off and kind of does a CEO roll then this may be the best solution. i didn't really think about naming petrino iHC would detract from his usual duties so now i think this may have been an ok move.

still don't think they had a shot at the BCS to begin with, especially now, but i think they'll get to 9 wins easily

Bobby coached as an assistant under John L. for 7 years total at Idaho, Utah State, and Louisville before replacing him as head coach at Louisville. Petrino then hired out of retirement as an assistant at Arkansas 3 years ago.

It's a mad, mad, scientific rocket experiment never before witnessed in the world of sports. Crazy? Hell yes. So crazy, it just might work.

So? Vegas has a better finger on this than you or I do.

0, but that's irrelevant. Arkansas is a longshot and I don't have the expendable income to make longshot bets, but you said Arkansas has no shot and my point was that the professionals currently think only about 8 teams have a better shot than Arkansas, so you're wrong.

I'm not sure how many Hog fans you'll get this treble hook into but solid effort nonetheless. Admiration to you, Scoop.

Naming Paul Petrino the Interim HC would have been the best unifying move for this season. He's someone the players would have rallied around.

Our players are excited as fk to have JLS as the HC idk where the hell your getting this.

Look, I don't need to get into a ridiculous argument with you on this stuff. I think your AD has been outstanding through all of this. He's handled a really messy situation with a lot of class. I think he made a very smart move here going this route.

But, you want to get into a flame fest simply because I don't think you have a legit shot at the NC.

You guys will do fine this year and make a good hire at the end of the year and be in good shape long-term.
