this. they have the same shitty offensive line from last year, they lost their top 2 wr's, and a new dc coming in trying to fix a shitty defense. 9-3 maybe 10-2, having said that, he is a very good coach and in the future he very well could have had them in the NC hunt.

Which is true of probably 75 or more teams in the country. What keeps 90% of them from being true contenders is that it's highly unlikely that they will "take care of business". You would have to beat Alabama and LSU, not to mention everybody else on your schedule. That's not realistic, and wouldn't have been even if Petrino was a celibate monk and had never seen a motorcycle in his life.

Right in his system he found players who were tailored to his scheme and was highly successful on the offensive side of ball. I would wait till you see who you get next before you just assume its going to be a seamless transition.

No he wasn't.
What Petrino was is a great offensive mind that could create outstanding offensive game plans and call timely plays that exploited defensive weaknesses. He recruited one great QB (Wilson) who he developed very well. His other QB (Mallett) fell in his lap when Rich Rod was hired at Michigan. He got most of the AR good skill players and signed 1 really good RB from out of state in Davis.
Other than that, his defenses pretty much sucked and his recruiting of O and D linemen, LB's, and DB's was at best average.
He's gone and left your program in an embarrassing mess. I have no idea why some of you AR fans still worship that sleaze ball that never won anything of consequence.

The knock on Petrino going back to Louisville was his inability and/or refusal to convert kids to defense, the joke used to be the best cornerbacks on his squad were lingering on the bench as third team wideouts

I want the ones who say there are only 4 true contenders to tell me their teams. Bet $100 and I'll take the field. I can bet 99 out of 100 times that 2 of the 4 or 5 teams they pick will not be in the title game.
