Because the NCAA is well aware that P5 schools are openly questioning the ongoing need for the NCAA.
The NCAA picks the wrong school to challenge, which then brutalizes the NCAA in the court of public opinion (or actual courts), and suddenly it's open season and the whole house of cards comes down.

I dated 2 dykes once... We have a great time...
But this Dykes, I am not a huge fan of... He truly was one of the worst hires ever at the UofA... Damn man, he sucked. Just another Jeff Long screw up!

His voice tone is set to "irritating". The ending was hilarious when dude read a tweet saying they were the single worst pair of announcers he'd ever heard". Dude said he was "shook" LOL!

I don't see how this really changes anything.
Again, the NCAA is targeting Auburn in no small part because Pearl had the audacity to mislead them and that is an egregious sin - far more important to the NCAA than actual cheating/corruption.
And they're particularly sensitive to that precisely because they're on borrowed time and they can't afford someone who is an affront to their authority. There is no rational reason for targeting a Pearl-led program. Especially one like Auburn that has an absurdly conservative compliance department.
