But what about the defense
I can honestly say we do NOT have a Championship Defense, thus far. A lot of great offenses have looked good on highlights only to come short in bowls and big games. To be National Championship team you have to have a decent defense. It's also why I question whether or not TN or Bama will win SECCG because frankly both secondary's looked pretty bad Saturday. If I am to be honest UGA looks more like a Championship team in this regard, but their schedule hasn't proven it yet. I doubt they have last years defense, but even slipping from that it still may be the best in the SEC.
What I will say though. Our Rushing Defense has looked very good all year, and considering the duel threat from Jahmyr Gibbs and Young's air attack, I think they did a very good job. Likewise our pass rush consistently kept Young under pressure and forced their uglies to make hold after hold for entire game.
I think Tim Banks is the right man, and I think our defense will improve each week. But our injuries and talent in the secondary is without a doubt the chink in the armor. Whether or not this can be fixed THIS year or not I don't know. To expect Hooker and company to outscore our secondary deficiency through the SECCG and playoffs is to bank on miracles.

Find me a Tennessee fan who has claimed we have a good secondary. You can't.
So the answer is yes, Tennessee fans ARE being honest with themselves. Our defense struggles against the pass, and therefore has allowed a lot of yards.
Good talk!

They are going to Athens in a couple weeks.. We will see how that offense does against a defense like Georgia

It could be a good match-up for Georgia. Tennessee's offense hasn't played anyone with a strong pass defense, and Georgia has shut down really good passing offenses like (current FBS Pass Offense Rankings):
#42 Oregon
#31 (FCS) Samford
#64 South Carolina
#82 Kent State
#103 Missouri
#104 Auburn
#108 Vanderbilt
The Defenses Tennessee has faced so far are (ranked in passing yards allowed per game):
#24 LSU
#31 Alabama
#41 Pittsburgh
#87 Florida
#45 Ball State
#108 Akron
So Georgia hasn't played a top 25 Passing offense, and UT has only played 1 top 25 Passing Defense.

This post was far too accurate and rational for this message board.

To be fair, both LSU and Bama were top 20 prior to playing us

Our defense is great EXCEPT for our secondary.

I guess a last second field goal over a team that had 17 penalties and multiple turnovers is a great win

I still find it hard to believe that they gave up 49 when the other team had a staggering 17 penalties. With all those drive killers Bama still moved it up and down the field at will. Down and distance was irrelevant lol.

Bama was not alone with messing up, and in fairness the defense wasn't responsible for all of it.

The best defense is a good offense.
It’s like the joke about you and your buddy being chased by a bear. You don’t have to outrun the bear, you just need to outrun your buddy.

Seth notes, a little better game management at the end, and it’s likely we’d all be talking about another narrow escape for Saban’s team.
Oh please. Had we not gifted them a scoop and score in the middle of the 4th quarter it wouldn't have been close.
That was Alabama's 'A' game. They were fortunate to even be in it in the end.
The best team won.

Not to mention the two TD drops on slight overthrows. Or the TD handed to Bama after a PI call that was clearly OPI by Bama.
Nana was lucky to be within 20 of UT
