The real question should be if Bama would score more than 24 on Toledo.

Relevant teams are talking here....sorry Florida isn't in that category.

They might. They certainly manhandled Bama. My guess is that they will be a 8-5 type team.

TCU scored a lot of points on that stout defense...they look like 8-9 win team imo.

If you gave the points, you came out a winner.

Why was this never mentioned before the game?

It was mentioned by Game Day, College Football Live, and many of the Fox Sports analysts. Behold:

quote:

Why Virginia Tech Might Win: No one in the SEC will want to buy this, but this might be the best defense Alabama faces all season long. It’s a loaded group returning from a D that led the ACC in sacks and finished second on tackles for loss, improving as the season went on and doing a nice job against the run. The line is aggressive and active, and the secondary, despite the absence of top corner, Antone Exum, is talented and physical. There’s talk that this might be the best defensive front Frank Beamer has fielded in a decade, and considering Alabama is welcoming in three new starters on offense, there could be consistency problems.

What Will Happen: Alabama will win, but it’s not going to be pretty. The final score will probably make it look like a mild blowout, but the Tide will struggle to get there with the Virginia Tech defense causing major problems running consistently. After this game the storyline will be, “What’s wrong with Alabama?” Instead, it should be about how Virginia Tech is rock solid, even if it loses.
Prediction: Alabama 26 … Virginia Tech 10

VTech has a stout defensive front, in fact the best we will face all regular season aside from LSU.

Those are both facts. Is that good enough for you?

Nah man. That's not what he wants to hear. He wants you to say Alabama's offensive line is terrible and looked terrible against a terrible defense and Alabama doesn't stand a chance against LSU this year.

No I want truth. There was a thread a day for a month about a player quitting vt. They fielded a jv squad.

Oh aren't we used to winning with a garbage offense? We sure can spot it these days

It's not the job of the Alabama fans on here to satisfy me so I don't know what you mean by it "being good enough for me".

Still doesn't change the fact that I saw no Alabama fan on this site all offseason have the slightest concern over Virginia Tech's top 10 defense. It seems this realization came after you guys managed to muster only 14 points against a team who was missing God knows how many players. You all expected blowouts, and I can't say I didn't either.

Many LSU fans are guilty of the same thing. A lot of them expected blowouts while the more reasonable fans saw TCU was a legit opponent.

Link em up? The last page is filled with you gumps saying this exact thing, that they have an elite d.

Link me a bama thread before game time respecting the vt team. It won't happen.

BTW, that was a damn solid writeup by that anlyst.

I picked VT to cover in my only pick this week.

It was the right pick considering getting 20 points and actually outgaining the other team whose offense only put up 14 points.

I'm going to agree with the bammers on this one, I saw a lot of talent on that Vtech defense. I was very impressed with the front 7 as well as the 2 fuller brothers on the backend. If Vtech can find any semblance of an offense they could make some noise in the ACC this year. It was a good win for Bama.

27 points.
7 scored on a kickoff return.
7 scored when they got the ball at our 5 yard line.
So thirteen points on legitimate drives of more than 5 yards.
That's not "a lot of points on our stout defense".
Thanks for letting me clear that up.

You can't produce much yardage when your OL is horrible...we have tons of talent all over the offense. Dummy.
