Are bad coaching hires really to blame for Vol woes?

Obviously UT has made some shitty HC hires, but I think the deck is stacked against the Vols.

The primary issue is in-state demographics and 2 regional recruiting powerhouses.

UT has traditionally been successful when they could supplement their minimal in-state top flight talent with some top players from GA & the Carolinas. The Vols are no longer able to pull top shelf kids away from UGA or Clemson, and this trend is only going to snowball the further UT football slips from relevancy.

An 17 year old no longer remembers the last time UT football was even decent - much less a contender.

The Vols are now in a situation similar to Bama’s in 2006 - but worse - in that it is going to take a very dynamic coaching hire to breathe life back into the program. Phillip Fulmer would be resistant to letting someone come in and blow the whole thing up, IMO.

It’s a real mess.

But I'm told every year by my friends how damn good their recruiting is. They even show me the rankings.

This is the only logial answer I swear. Vols are cursed

FSU is broken
Nebraska is laughable
Michigan has no reason to be this bad

If someone 20 years ago would have told you these 4 programs would be this bad, all at the same time, you would have laughed at them

Tennessee hs football has never been as good as it is now. The increase in talent in Nashville outweighs any players they used to get from NC/SC and a good UT team would still own North GA.

Their old pipelines to CA and TX could be rebuilt with the right HC/OC combo.

It is absolutely on poor coaching hires. Not a damn one of the coaches they've fired has sniffed a HC job afterwards and neither will Pruitt.

It's a combination of expectations and a poorly run program from the top down.

They expect top tier results, but clearly there are issues up top.

The fans however, are to blame for Pruitt. Schiano is a damn good college coach, and these morons drove him out.

I live in Nashville, and attend HS games regularly.

If middle TN talent was great, AL, CU, UGA, etc. would be all over the place. They are not.

There are some good players, but not enough to use as a recruiting base for a D1 team.

Someone will have to explain the euphoric dogma for Schiano’s coaching ability.

No recruiting base around and too much competition outside of Tennessee from Clemson, Alabama, UGA, etc.

It’s called the Curse of Logan Young. I don’t believe in karma, but I do believe in that.

I understand the worth as a tag line, but his most meaningful accomplishment in any level of football was his Tampa team leading the NFL in staph infections.
