Its women's basketball so no one cares, but Mississippi State going to back-to-back national championship games and letting the coach go to Texas because the AD's wife didn't like him is one of the most disastrous coach changes in SEC history.
Schafer proceeds to take the best high school player in MS history, bring her to Texas, and beat South Carolina with her while State sucks again.
Continuing my bitching about the Mississippi State mindset - last night was the first time in Super Bowl history that the same college had captains on both teams - Slay for Philadelphia and Jones for Kansas City. This is a testament to what Dan Mullen built at State and a good portion of our fanbase curses his name.
There ought to be a statue of Dan Mullen in Starkville and he should have been pursued in our three coach searches since his replacement was fired. I hope he takes UNLV to the playoffs.

Guy was an assistant coach at A&M. He took 6 layers of dog crap at State and took them to back to back national championship games. Historically, State was the worse womens basketball program in the SEC by a large margin - at one point they were 2-50 against Ole Miss all-time - which isn't a powerhouse program.
The circumstances around his sudden leaving for Texas is an indictment on how terrible our athletic administration has been since Byrne and Stricklin left the big chair.

I didn't know that story. He's a tremendous coach.

You can make the argument that he is the best coach ever to coach at Mississippi State - any sport.
He had every game selling out and the entire MSU community locked into women's basketball for his last 4-5 seasons.
That '16 season was the first year State started looking good. Won some big games and hosted the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament. Got to the Sweet 16 and played Connecticut and lost by 60. He told the team that they were better than UConn and he would prove it.
The next year they beat the same UConn team in the Final Four to end a 111 game win streak. The moment was too big and they fell to South Carolina in the final, but the next year they were the best team in the country from start to 0.1 seconds left in the season- lost on a last second shot to Notre Dame in the final.
Went to the Elite 8 the next year and lost to Oregon in Portland as a No. 1 seed. Was lined up to make another run in 2020 before COVID canceled the NCAA Tourney. Woke up one morning a couple weeks into COVID and he was at Texas.

The voters are determined to keep LSU out of a 1-seed.

Watching UK now. Kenny Brooks is going to be national coach of the year.

UK WBB will NOT be in the top 10 next week. They lost at OMiss tonight and will lose against Texas Thursday night. UK will finish a distant 4th in the SEC.

I really like our coach but we just don’t have the players yet. SC is stacked and has a bee line to finals. If we can keep building thru recruiting though, maybe can get there. Limited star recruits in WBB so its hard to dethrone the top few teams if you don’t snag any very limited best recruits. But Jennie can coach and took over a weak team when she got here. So far made tourney each year.

Outside a handful of blue blood programs, he was an excellent coach by every team's measure. For Mississippi State, he was Lombardi/Bryant/Saban.
We are literally one of the worst P4 programs in the nation. We have an all-time losing record. He had us expanding the stadium, going to bowls every year and freaking had us No. 1 in the nation for six weeks.
I don't blame him for going to Florida at the time that he did. But he would have had the SEC's all-time leading QB rusher and the No. 1 defense in the nation in 2018. I think he could have made another run at a great season.
The fact that he is coaching at UNLV is a travesty. Hell, he wasn't.a bad coach at Florida - three 10 win seasons out of 4.

Dumb. They’re ranked as high as they could be really. Their profile/resume doesn’t warrant being a 1 seed over any of the projected 1 seeds currently.
