“NEW YORK (AP) — The Associated Press intends to rank teams if major college football games are played this season.
A most unusual season is less than a month away and the preseason AP Top 25 presented by Regions Bank is scheduled to be released Aug. 24, marking the 85th year of its existence. The AP will also release its preseason All-America team the following day.
The AP has asked its voters to consider all Division I teams when filling out their ballots, so the preseason poll is expected to include teams from conferences that have decided not to play this fall. After games begin, voters will rank only teams that are scheduled to play.”

The SEC should tag the PAC and the B1G when the results come out

Was that paragraph too much for you Glamorous?

Sorry but this part is dumb. Big 10/Pac 12 should not be in this whatsoever

quote:Why bother to include teams already deciding not to play? I mean, Ohio State will be no lower than #2, and likely get a fair amount of #1 votes. They WOULD have been a very good team... we think.

Penn State, Wisconsin, probably Minnesota and Michigan each likely would have gotten votes.
Oregon and Utah would have, too.
That doesn't matter, because their record will be 0-0 for the entire fall season.
Do they plan on keeping these rankings if there's a spring for the other group? Do you hold a spot in the top 4 for Ohio State, in the event they can run through the Big 10 (if they play)?
That would be bullshite. Rank the teams playing, do a separate one if you like for spring. If Memphis somehow finishes Top 5, don't bump them down 5 months later.
added- that's what's going to happen, I bet. If we get both fall and spring, the AP is going to try to "integrate" both seasons, sticking Big 10 and Pac 12 teams into the final poll, 4 months after the fall is over.
Think- if nobody comes through the SEC undefeated, but Ohio State runs through the Big 10, the AP might declare the Buckeyes #1... in May. Even if half the best players sit out to prepare for the NFL.

The AP is wussing out. They also plan on having a top 25 in the spring.
quote:
If a spring season is also played, the AP plans to rank teams then as well.
“The AP and our voters have no idea what a spring football season will look like. But we are open to adapting and finding a way for our Top 25 voters to be involved in ranking teams if real games are played in the spring of 2021,” Giarrusso said.

As long as the SEC, ACC, and Big 12 teams are ranked in the preseason Spring football season rankings. I will allow it

Since 2004 the AP has been as relevant as my own personal poll.
Which is to say, entirely 100% irrelevant.

If both the Big10 and PAC12 play this Spring, I guess their champs will play off (Rose Bowl?) and declare a national champion.

A top 25 for 30 odd teams
Just stop pretending like this a real college football season. Just let each conference play their league and be done with it
This year is going to be so stale

By process of elimination, shite programs like UK may have their greatest ranking ever

If they all play, it's going to be the eyeball test again.

So the playoff committee was lying this week when they said they were having the playoffs at the regularly scheduled dates and locations?

I don’t quite understand this view. It’ll be SEC teams going at it all season and will still have a playoff in the end. Is it tarnished due to Ohio State not playing this year? Because that’s the only team that mattered out of both of those conferences

About 10 of the top 25 teams won’t be playing and 3 or 4 in the top ten And one very legitimate team to win the whole thing
Yeah I think this is a horseshite season. I would rather they all play. It’s good for college football. What’s going on now is not good for college football. You’ve had a bunch of big time programs self impose a death penalty
This fricking sucks
