We are really good every year. Our coach has an 85.5 winning percentage. We haven’t lost to a non Saban team in 3 years.

This.

The reality is more than that though. UGA would have made a 12 team playoff every year if it had existed since 2017 (Smart's second season at UGA). Working backwards from last season, UGA's pre-bowl rankings were 6th, 1st, 3rd, 8th, 5th, 5th and 3rd.

UGA MIGHT be overrated. We may not be the #1 team. But we'll likely be top 10 and in the playoff even if we are overrated.

Not only that, the only coaches Smart has lost to from 2017 on who are still head coaches are Gus Malzahn (at AU, now at UCF) and Tom Herman (at Texas, now at FAU). The others aren't head coaches anymore (Saban, Orgeron, Muschamp and Mullen)

Most definitely overrated. Should not be ranked at all.

My guess is we win 4 maybe 5 games if we get lucky

They benefited from a weak SEC last year

If Tennessee lost 4 games in a weak SEC, and you lost all world Joe Milton....wow. You guys might lose 7-8 games this year.

Even with those two key weapons, Bama and Saban with one foot out the door, still beat this team last year despite starting a running back at QB.

What is worse our team beat yours by 4 TD and that weak Alabama team beat your team by 2 TD.

2024 UGA is a completely different team than the ones that recently won it all.

This is true. This seasons version is, on paper, more talented.

It is entirely possible that UGA takes a step backwards. It happens. Outside of wishful thinking there is no indication in August that it happens this year. The far bigger difference this season is the schedule.

With that being said, don't shoot the messenger, but i see UGA slipping and having multiple losses this year.

I could buy a narrative that they are a bit overrated. I get most of this post is trolling, but its not hard to sell yourself on a few things that could point to this:

1) Tough schedule

2) Maybe Beck gets 'exposed' a bit with some losses on offense. Still think hes a very good to great QB, just maybe not "first QB drafted, Heisman finalist" good. Losing a fantastic center, best college TE ever, Ladd, and other good players.

3) Even Bama had transition years where the defense just wasn't as great as it usually is, UGA is due (though you could argue they had that last year and still were undefeated going into Atlanta).

Depleted secondary, 4 new coaches and Bowers and McConkey gone on to the pros, they will take a step back this year. Clem has a good chance to take a W !!!

Auburn with a lake always has a chance in early August. Its the last Saturday in August through about November that Clem's son struggles with....

If you think Jawja is overrated, who should be rated higher? It really is that simple...no novella needed.

Someone let me know when being "overrated" correlates to "tough schedule"

Best QB in college. He will make people better. Winners are winners. Period.

I hate to disagree with a dawg especially in a thread of this nature but uh...I gotta disagree with you there. If we're using 2021/2022 as a benchmark, I'm not sure where on paper the 2024 team has the advantage outside of a couple random spots here or there.

If you're the preseason number 1 and finish number 5 partially because you dropped some games, the 'tough schedule' was part of it.

He lost to a TE playing QB with a worse group of receivers and probably a worse OL than Beck had

But...what does that say about Tennessee? I mean, I have seen several Vol fans predicting 10-2, 11-1 and 12-0. You lost your QB, entire secondary, RB etc. yet most of you (Not saying you, because i have not seen your prediction) believe the Vols will be anywhere from 2-4 games better.

Slow your Old Smokey roll hillbilly.

This statement is prognostication, and poor correlation, not hidsight.

I think somewhere in the 8-4, 10-2 range.

The QB should be better. Secondary at worst a push, we did lose a good one at RB though.

I get what you're saying, and I didn't say that a tough schedule is part of assessing how good a team is actually. The "are they overrated" question can be "Will they lose more games than they are projected to lose?" OR "Is this team actually WORSE on the field than we think they are?". I actually gave cases for both.

This isn't a thread to bash UGA although i do enjoy doing that.

Ofcourse they have earned it but this is the year they lose their stronghold over this conference imo and Kirby begins to drop off.
