The bottom line is LSU's best defense will be their offense. Their best bet at winning next Saturday will be 7 and 8 minute drives. I know it doesn't take Bama long to score, but your odds are better when you have the football and Bama doesn't. The more minutes Tua spends standing around on the sidelines, the better off LSU will be.
Yep, but LSU cant try the same ole crap. They will have to be aggressive, cant try the ole 3yrds cloud of dust.
Also, Tua having a Freddie Kitchens type performance would be nice.

In the air and going in the general direction of the goal posts is a win in my eyes at this point as far as FG's go.

Oh, I'm sorry. I thought the topic was Alabama's offense vs LSU's defense, not Alabama's defense.
You do realize the numbers you are quoting came mostly against the two's and three's right?
That young secondary has more talent (collectively) on it than last year's BAMA team and they've been playing together all season and are working the kinks out. If that is our weakness, then someone needs to expose it.
The LB depth is an issue, but our starting group is still solid.

wow 8 pages, I didn't go through them all...I hope it has been a civil convo so far, if not cheers for trying
I think the WRs and DBs is very evenly matched, my concern for the pass defense relies on the line...If you Tua has time he will chew up some yards, may not be the big plays but 5-6 yards will still get you first downs

it's not, actually. Read subject title again. Both of you have ventured off base.

I responded to the Bama poster talking about our Rush defense so....

You mean an awesome, sexy and downright electric performance?

I'm just going to assume that either LSU is going to stop the run or Bama isn't really going to try to run and the game will come down to how many monster plays Tua and the receivers have. I'm predicting plenty, but you never know.

Tua will make plays, but this is by far the best secondary he has seen and will see all year. 2 Thorpe Award semi finalists back there, and Delpit likely wins it if he keeps his play up.
What it will come down to for LSU is pressure on Tua. The DBs will be fine, but if Tua has enough time, they will come open eventually. It's just science.

"Alabama passing game" = Alabama offense
"LSU secondary" = LSU defense
"LSU secondary" = LSU defense

He may have had some good games, but I wouldn't say he was good against LSU in the 90s.
So let me be clear, Tua having a performance like FK had against LSU would be nice.

LSU disrupting routes will be crucial. One thing that hasn’t been discussed a lot is that Tua has been absolutely brilliant in hitting receivers in stride on slants where the receivers can rip off huge gains after the catch. None of Alabama’s receivers are the particularly big “go up and get it” type so being able to limit their yards after the reception is gonna be as important as defending the deep ball in this game in my opinion.

The formula for both sides goes like this. It’s basic. I’m thinking it’ll be a defensive game as usual. First team to get to 24 wins.
Bama = make LSU pass the ball.
LSU = stop the bama pass attack.
Bama = make LSU pass the ball.
LSU = stop the bama pass attack.

Irv Smith will play a big role in this game, I think. Him matched up against LBs could be a mismatch

This game won't be a 7 on 7. LSU's secondary, particularly your safeties, are going to have to play both run and pass. This BAMA offense can do it all. So the idea that LSU's secondary is going to sit back and play coverage against us isn't realistic, which is why I brought up your rush defense. UF was one dimensional and still ran on you. What's going to happen when it's Tua playing QB and LSU isn't playing a one dimensional offense? That was the point.
LSU fans have no idea how good this offense truly is. The Tigahs are in for a long night.
