Wife and I are going to the Chicken Bowl...we are staying downtown at the CNN Omni and New Years is our anniversary. I'm trying to find 2 really good/nice places to eat for dinner...any help would be great so I can get reservations...thanks!

just do yourself a favor and go have some eggs in the morning at the cheetah, and some dinner after the game at the cheetah.

You won't be upset you did.

Not within walking distance of the Omni, but Empire State South is just up the road in midtown. It is pretty nice, I just don't know the downtown well.

These are not necessarily close to the dome, but worth the trek.

South City Kitchen

Chops

Hal's

Optimist is not far, it is well regarded. Reservation might be tricky.

For steak, go to Rathbun Steak, Bones, Chops or Hals, none of which are that close, but are doable.

yes, please. We ate there a little while ago. they had a ribeye flight that was awesome, but nothing beats their dry aged porterhouse and the seafood tower for an app

It's been awhile since I've stayed in that area but it depends on what you want. From what i remember there's not a whole lot to choose from except maybe chains McCormick & Schmick's and Ruth's Chris. There's a Biergarten close by too that's pretty good. Suggest cabbing it up north to Buckhead for better selection and night life.

One of the best seafood restaurants I've been to is Spondivits by ATL airport. Buckets of steamed shellfish and ice cold beer. Awesome! But get there early cuz they are always packed.

This just tells me I'll never be a big timer. I don't care what it is how how good it is, I don't think I could ever see myself paying $70 for an appetizer.

$ doesn't matter...looking for some good food and good wine...normally that is pricey...the older you get, you realize it's the little things that make you happy...food is one of them

Also, steak house or not? if not, any food you dont like?

also, like stated, your best bet is to get away from the Dome

Most of the places listed are steakhouses which are always awesome, but Atlanta has an incredibly thriving culinary scene and it would be an injustice if you don't branch out and try some of it out.

This list has a ton of variety and of the ones I have tried, this is a good list.

ETA: if you have a rental car and dont mind a small drive, Canoe is outstanding. It is on the banks of the Chattahoochee and one of my all time favorites.
