Any chance Auburn uses another QB?

Nick Marshall had a darn good year. Hes really explosive and makes players miss, but his arm is a liability and we saw that in the second half last night. Although his running style fits the system well, do you think there is any chance Malzahn gives another QB a chance?

Jeremy Johnson is a much better passer, Marshall can improve a lot over an offseason though. He got to Auburn like 3 weeks before the season started.

If JJ is better in the lead up to 2014, I imagine he'll start. Although I think Marshall will get the "tie" edge, meaning JJ will have to be the clearly superior QB (and that could happen).

He looked decent in the first half, but made a couple bad throws in the second half. He can no doubt it open receivers but idk if he can make tough throws consistently.

I've never seen Jeremy Johnson vs. "real" competition, so I doubt it at this point.

I remember thinking we were actually going to beat y'all in Jordan Hare due to this.. Marshall showcased and won his spot that game. He'll be a fine tuned Malzahn QB by next year..

Marshall showed upside as a passer, but I do think Johnson sees a few more reps a game.

from a cnnsi article...
After watching Marshall complete 17-of-20 passes during the two-minute drill portions of preseason scrimmages, Lashlee decided the Garden City (Kan.) Community College transfer was his starter.
Marshall has a cannon and sometimes it's too much and then sometimes he over compensates and it's short. I think with an entire offseason to practice he and the WRs should get better. But there needs to be a better passing solution to blitzes.

also give Marshall credit, he didn't look nervous. JW did.

Marshall also led the nation in fumbles. He is an athlete at the QB position which makes his decisions with the ball a liability at times.

What a stupid question. Marshall did not lose that game last night. When we needed to score we did, just like we have all season. The D lost the game.

I wouldnt say cannon. He can throw it far but not with much velocity.

Never said he did but he was very average in the 2nd half. Your D didnt lose they game, they played well in the first half. FSU just played real well in the second half.
I was just asking if there was any chance, as a coach you always look for ways to improve your team and I was wondering if they could improve at QB.

this is pretty much it. With his read option ability, his arm doesn't have to be spectacular, just solid.

Auburn was really lucky to not be in more holes this year. Marshall simply cant pass his way out of a big deficit. He has a good arm, but his accuracy is just so bad mid to long range.
He is in just about the only offense to utilize him as a QB.

You can't sit a QB who took your team to the BCS game. Marshall is strange because he can hit really hard throws but miss really easy ones. Either way he will be the QB and Gus will just work around his deficiencies like he did this year.

It's going to be interesting, because Johnson projects better at QB. However, Marshall has ice in his veins. Nobody can rattle him. And he's great at running the offense.
If the football gods will just grace him with touch on his long ball we are all set to run a balanced attack that will look absolutely scary.

I agree but I am not sure JJ gives AU a better chance of winning. He isn't nearly as good with his feet as NM is. JJ is a lot like Winston in size and speed. Big, strong, but not very fast. I am not sure his throwing advantage is enough of a trade-off to sit NM who can run and throw decently.

No way they sit him, nobody else on campus touches his athleticism. You have to have that at QB in this offense.
With that said, I'd be interested to see how many fumbles AU O had that they recovered. I can think of 5 combined between the UGA and FSU games. That's already a ton for two games, I didn't watch the others THAT closely since I tend to work on Saturdays of UGA home games. I'm guessing, just by chance, that they'll lose more of those next year and Marshall will inevitably get a little more heat from the fanbase.

I'd say overall we lost as many as we got back. Marshall seems to fumble in the backfield a lot. He can be a bit careless. But that's why it's up to Gus to come up with something to help him out when teams blitz because that's when the majority of those happened.
Although all of the fumbles Monday came on special teams if I remember correctly.
