I bet there are some fired up fans in Gainesville tonight and as a Bama fan, I'm jealous.

I have no problem with those rankings. You can certainly make a case for LSU being a little ahead of Bama and UT because they`ve proven they`re a program that can get to multiple Final 4s. They`ve (LSU) have also proven they`re capable of recruiting at least as well if not better than the other two. LSU fans haven`t historically supported basketball any better than UT or Bama have though.

The 1976 Alabama team is playing in the NIT? Dang those guys can still ball for being in their mid to late 50s.

Do you have some inside info on Pee Wee's interest in coaching the Vols?

It`s only a matter of time according to Brent Hubbs at Volcheat. After all, Grant is absolutely miserable in Tuscaloosa and his wife and Terry Saban spend all their weekends planning their imminent departures from Tuscaloosa. Grant can`t wait to escape the chaotic unsettled working conditions in Alabama` AD to work in the relative peace of UT`s stable AD. It`s a no brainer move for Grant. Duh!!

I think that would be one of Wimp Sanderson's Sweet 16 teams or Gottfried's 2002 squad that won the SEC and went 28-8.

C.M. Newton`s Alabama teams in the mid 70a and definitely Wimp`s 1987 Alabama team was a lot better than any of Gottfried`s teams. In fact most of Wimp`s teams in the 80s and early 90s were better than Gottfried`s teams

I know UT is a "better" basketball job but that is debatable at worst.

NCAA Tournament appearances:
Alabama 19
Tennessee 19

Sweet 16:
Alabama 8
Tennessee 8

Elite 8:
Alabama 1
Tennessee 1

SEC Tournament champs:
Alabama 6
Tennessee 4

Regular Season SEC champs:
Alabama 7
Tennessee 9

Notes of interest:

Alabama - Alabama won three straight SEC titles under C.M. Newton (1974, 1975, and 1976), the only program besides Kentucky to accomplish this feat. Alabama also has a winning record against every SEC team but two, Kentucky and Arkansas. The longest tenured coach in UA history was Hank Crisp, who coached the Crimson Tide basketball team from 1924-1942, a total of 19 seasons, a stretch that included UA’s last undefeated season, a 20-0 campaign in 1930

Tennessee - In March 2009, the University of Tennessee athletic department made a statement saying that they would claim the 1916 National Championship, but would not hang a banner for such an occasion. Tennessee finished that year with a 16-0 record, the only time in Tennessee basketball history that a team has gone undefeated.

Lets all step back, take a deep breath and think about how totally awesome this thread would have been if CarryTheFight was contributing.
