That would only be the same situation if Harrison called Kaminsky a cracker, and he didn't

No offense, but if I need to show you examples of oppression that can be seen on a daily basis, then you wouldn't understand it in the first place.

Bottom line though, and getting back on topic of this thread, I still say the N word should never be used. When I was a kid, it was widely known only racists use this word. Today of course, is a far cry from those days. I think it's a despicable word to use regardless.

Too many folks with their pannys in a wad.. They forget how they originally communicated a long time ago.

As a white heterosexual, I don't feel oppressed on a daily basis. That's why I would like examples.

Can you just imagine the uproar if the exact same words were uttered by Kaminski regarding Harrison though?

Duh.

So...you want to use the word? Go for it!

I mean, if you just went up to some random dude and called his girl a bitch, you'd probably get your arse beat. But that same girl could go out with her girlfriends that night and call each other "bitches," and no one would bat an eyelash. Does that piss you off, too?

No, because that's silly. Like I said, it really is all about context.

Neither do I, but the Christians are what we were referring to.

Oh, I can't comment on that because I am not a Christian. Can you cite some examples? I can organize a march for y'all too. Maybe we can do it in your city.

1. This has been said 1000 times in this thread

2. It's really not a double standard because it IS a different if Kaminsky says "frick that n*****r"

Is there an example of oppression?

I wasn't saying Christians were oppressed. I mean, hell, it's Easter today and half the businesses in town are closed in observance. Christians are the majority in this nation (I am one, yes). We are not oppressed. I think that's a bit of hyperbole.

EXCEPT, if you talk shite about A&M. T'bird enters the proverbial phone booth. You'd think a great guy like that would have chosen a better college.

You know his intent now? I love how people can read into peoples hearts and know their intentions and what they truly meant. Must be a fascinating skill. Very useful in the real world.

This I do not agree with. Slur aside, there was no call for that outburst on a podium in front of a roomful of people. Not losing with grace at all.

For shame, Calipari.

That's really where the "outrage" should be, imo. He acted like an idiot, he should receive at least some reprimand.

I don't care that he used the N-word, ignorant people say ignorant things. IT'S JUST A frickING WORD. Just like frick, shite, count, a-hole, cock-sucker, motherfricker, tits, ****, ********, *****, and Barbara Streisand.

Oppressed? No.

Judged and put under a microscope. Expected to feel guilty for the plight of others? Absolutely.

As others have said. I'm not nearly sensitive enough to be offended by what Harrison says, but the double standard that is propagated in our society does piss me off.

What reprimand do you give to a kid who has likely attended his last class at your institution?

This. Inexcusable that he's not being upbraided for his unsportsmanlike conduct.

He's not disciplining him because they've turned it over to the University to review. Doesn't mean there won't be any discipline at all.

Good. I think this was the correct position to take.
