Yeah, but the students must have left the game early, wasn't nearly as loud in the 2nd half.

Unfortunately, we all stayed and witnessed that

Maybe it was taken after the 2012 season.

Hell, that's what I was thinking sitting there before half.....damn, I'm watching our season go down the drain.

definitely creates a hostile environment for the road team.

I don't consider any college football stadium to be "hostile".

100,000 old farts sitting on their hands sure is intimidating

Unless a school chooses to pipe-in crowd noise...not that king Bama would ever have to do something that petty.

That's cool. I do.

Hostile merely means antagonistic, unfriendly, and something that is openly opposed to you. I think all of those can fit your experience during the game as an opposing player and even fan. You are booed and the crowd is openly rooting against you and trying to prevent you from success. Sounds hostile to me. Sure you can have friendly experiences (particularly before or after the game), but during a big close game I think hostile is a pretty good description of the atmosphere for an opposing player or fan.

They could've at least use a better picture of Bryant-Denny.

Hmm, wasn't there a more recent game between these two teams in Bryant Denny? I wonder how that turned out.

Article is flat wrong. If they were to survey 100% of the players LSU would win hands down. Dont get me wrong BDS for a big game is as loud as anywhere you will go but consistently scary nuts it has to be Tiger Stadium. And for a big night game, forget about it. Nothing you have ever experienced will prepare you for that. Probably the closest the typical American will ever come to a soccer riot.

no other team in the history of college football could have won in BDS in 2011 except the 2011 LSU tigers.

The biggest game in this Century of college football was won by LSU.

Well if it had to do with their opponent then it seems like that would intimidate them before they even saw the atmosphere. Unless we're talking about really special players that didn't know they were playing Alabama until they walked into a stadium with a sea of crimson and white.

I was thinking the reality of it would set in once they're on the field and see the fans and see the opposing team. Something like that. But just guessing.

So nothing to do with the atmosphere. Got it.

I don't just think of how loud the crowd is when I think of atmosphere. I'm just guessing as to why Bama would be ahead of LSU on the list. I imagine standing inside of BDS and looking around at the fans and the other team players would start to think about the dominance of Alabama and it would make them feel more intimidated by BDS than louder stadiums such as Death Valley.

Again, just guessing.

Death Valley at night has to be the toughest atmosphere imho.

The two loudest atmospheres I've ever heard in college football resulted in the home team actually losing.

2010 Iron Bowl first half was the loudest I've ever heard a crowd for all four downs in my life. After going up 24-0 and Dareus broke through to sack Cam on 3rd down, I thought the place was going to come down.

2012 Alabama-LSU in the 4th quarter was so loud, it affected my vision. I swear.

Bama's fans are not close to the toughest. What makes BDS toughest is the team you have to play when you're there.

I was at the LSU Auburn game in Auburn in 2010(?). It was the year of Cam and PP&. Both teams were 8-0. LSU had beaten Bama already, and this game had the makings of a national championship on the line. I was very surprised how tame the atmosphere was. It was loud at times, but didn't have that constant roar I expected, even though it was extremely competitive and the home team won.
