This is the huge one.

If you want a soccer analogy, stop calling attacking players offside if they're within 3 yards of the defender and you'll see scoring rise there too.

Agree that the defensive targeting plays a role too.

However, it's the RPO threat without being able to read offensive linemen that's the real problem.

That rule alone probably doubles the chance that a fairly well-designed and executed offensive play will succeed regardless of what the defense does.

Geometry of the field hasn’t changed.

The geometry and dimensions of the space the eligible receivers occupies has changed. And it is a Sea change.

And it is too drastic a change for D's to effectively cover.

Further, the concept of a single big-dog receiver and a second-banana receiver getting almost all the targets is gone.

Now the ball can go to any receiver on the field. QB is usually throwing to an open area, not strictly a favorite target

Between this and making it nearly impossible to properly cover receivers without a penalty being called. For the most part the penalties are called fairly but it only takes a couple of uwstionable calls to make an impact. Whatever is is that Bama aand ole Miss did a few weeks back it ain’t football cause football requires a semblance of football.

You gotta have 4-5 above average defensive backs to be able to cover the 4-5 wide receivers on the field to slow the offense down.

As easy as it sounds most teams don't have 4-5 above average defensive backs so a good offense or quarterback will exploit the weak link and has a great chance for success.

Boutte is the only Freshman WR getting multiple targets. The others aren't new to Brennan. They're the same WRs he's thrown to for on to three years.

Add to that you then need 4-5 defensive backs that like to/are willing to tackle because if you’re running 4 wr and 1 rb in today’s game you now have 2 runners on the field, qb and rb. If you are playing 4-2-5 your safeties and corners must be able to tackle.

Also, spread teams run decoys at DB's dozens of times a game. Even the good DBs are gassed by mid 3rd quarter.

I get that but you're saying it like they didnt drop passes while Brady was here but now are.

Don't know if the stats are up yet, but LSU had near the highest if not the highest catch rate in the power-5 last season. Not the case this season.

Same elite athletic level. But grossly unprepared for the 2020 season - as grossly unprepared for a passing offense as the elite athletes in the 2018 WR room.

Not to mention June Jones was doing this at Hawaii, not Alabama, LSU, or Florida.

John Jenkins at UH back in the mid/late 80's, His WRS were literally sideline to sideline

Oof!

Someone just realized they actually weren't the "same receivers" like he claimed they were earlier in the thread.

Are you so stupid that you think anyone missed Jets tearing up the NFL and Chase opting out?

You are desperate to nitpick everyone's syntax to try to manufacture some sort of pathetic W for yourself.

Lets review since you're trying to change the narrative now.

You:
quote:

He pushed through the 10,000 jugs catches. Smart guy.

Maybe it was COVID, but there is no way Linehan got that done this Summer. Same WR's, but dropping balls like hot potatoes.

Then you doubled down:
quote:

Boutte is the only Freshman WR getting multiple targets. The others aren't new to Brennan. They're the same WRs he's thrown to for on to three years.

And then tripled down:
quote:

Don't know if the stats are up yet, but LSU had near the highest if not the highest catch rate in the power-5 last season. Not the case this season.

Then I repeated again that these weren't the same receivers and you completely changed your entire statement:
quote:

Same elite athletic level. But grossly unprepared for the 2020 season - as grossly unprepared for a passing offense as the elite athletes in the 2018 WR room.

Muh these are the same receivers

Be better, son

You are playing stupid to fake a little thread win.

Hilarious if it wasn't so pathetic.

What's pathetic is you actually said these were the "same receivers" and then doubled and tripled down on it.
